I have a question for all you Camerons and Speilbergs out there. I want to start shooting video for inspections at work but need to store the files on a DVD so 4.7 GB is my limit. Anyone know how many minutes I can get on a 4 GB card. I can probably go down to 720P mode to get more on. The answer I'm looking for is at least 30-40 minutes.

Thanks in advance, Brad

Not sure about the GoPro but a Flip will record 2 hrs with 8 gig @ 720p.
Great, thanks a bunch Gearman! I used that to find out they both use the same format and compression so in theory I should be able to get a hour.

Depends on the resolution, frame rate, and possibly other variables like amount of colors and compression.

It might be easier just to prorate their own statement on their own website for estimate purposes at https://gopro.com/cameras/hd-helmet-hero-camera

Record up to 2.5 hours on a single charge and up to 9 hours total on a 32GB SD card (not included).
Divide by 8 for you card size and you're talking about an hour or so on whatever settings they made their claim....which is probably the lowest setting.

I do believe I shot a 12 minute 30 second GoPro on 720P and 30fps and it was about 1 or 1.1 GB before I

. If so, your 35-40 minute hope is probably pretty close.

From their website:

Average recording times (using 32GB SD card):

1080p (30 fps): 4h 21m

960p (30 fps): 5h 26m

720p (60 fps): 4h 21

720p (30 fps): 8h 09m

WVGA (60 fps): 8h 09m
Divide each by 8 to determine your average recording time on a 4GB card.

I think it's worth the money to buy a 16GB card and not worry about space. The Kingston 16GB class 4 card is one recommended by GoPro. You can get one for about $25, like this one: https://cgi.ebay.com/Kingston-16GB-SD-HC-Class-4-Flash-Memory-Card-/180631814459?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0e7ec13b#ht_1672wt_805

When deciding which resolution/framerate to record, remember that all modes except for 1080p are very wide angle (170° view), which makes hills and curves appear quite flat and straight. 1080p is a 127° view, which is still a wide angle, but not as extreme. It looks much more natural than the extreme wide angle of the other views (but also makes vibration/shaking more noticeable).
