So in this situation, because the potential "might be there", just empty a clip into the guys window?

Who in the hell is talking about blowing somebody away?????

I really cannot see any link to doing that??? Not really sure where your mind set is man but mine ain't there with it I can assure you.

I was talking about getting yourself out of the way of a nut job behind the wheel of a dangerous thing who has the potential to run you over? Then I say what ever it takes to get out of harms way...not pumping someone's arse full (Keep reading) of lead.......
Can't comment about your situation as I wasn't there except it sounds like you did the safe thing for you at the time. Living in Cali as mentioned drivers don't usually get their panties in a wad for lane splitting, I mean lane sharing. But when traffic is stopped at a light I don't usually never pull to the front like most riders as it does cause stress IMO and that is unwanted or needed.

Personally I maintain my lane space usually off center left so no knucklehead tries and share his ride next to me causing an unsafe condition. C.H.P. friend once told me while on duty they allow lane sharing by bikes as long as traffic is traveling 35 mph or slower and the biker is not traveling more than 10 mph faster than traffic and in a safe manner. Sure many over look this general rule but safe being the key word. And if I'm provoked the best response I can give is none. Now days it doesn't pay to react, but if it was legal to pack like it is in your state, seems like the ***** who yelled at you might have forgot that fact....ride safe. PM.
what exactly are we alluding to here?

The fact that the cager was operating a vehicle (read: WEAPON) in a menacing and potentially lethal manner. Most laws allow you to respond with deadly force to a threat to your life. Would I have pulled and shot the guy...probably not...but I can understand the desire to. It's always nice to live in a state with OPEN carry...people are ALOT nicer when you have a gun on your hip. ;)

Fact is, I ride like EVERY person in a cage is out to Kill me...which means, if I have to speed up to get out of a pack of cars I will, if I have to blow an orange light to keep from getting cornholed by the guy behind me, or if I have to do like the OP did and get myself positioned in an intersection so as to mitigate risk I WILL, every time. I have been known to kick a mirror off somebody that was trying to take me out in traffic too. :assassin:

Ok, I just saw this for the first time. Didn't read most of the posts, but here's my .02 worth.

networkguy was totally in the wrong and I can understand why the cager went ballistic. Doesn't make the cager in the right, but I can understand why he got pissed.

I don't care how 'unsafe' you felt networkguy, what you did was illegal and is bound to piss people off that are in big heavy cages (weapons). I ride the same roads you do and I have never done what you did.

What I *do* do is maintain situational awareness and keep an eye on my rear-view mirrors so if there IS a problem with a car approaching from the rear, THEN I will take appropriate action.

You can rationalize until you are blue in the face to justify what you did, but the bottom line is you are going to piss other traffic off when you do stuff like that. And I for one try not to piss people off who are in bigger vehicles than I. *That* is what I consider safe riding. And legal too.

Oh FFS Skoot! pull the other one mate it plays jingle bells!! What a load of horse-****......

Education Cagers is the key... why should they be pissed off to save our own necks from potential harm??? You my good friend can have all the situational awareness but it wont save you on every occasion. Cagers get away with far too much agro and not enough road courtesy....**** em
