I thought about you this morning at work - someone rode a nice new CBRR-1000 to work and parked next to the FJR - which looks HUGE next to it.
Well, good news on the bike front. Sorry to hear about the accident. I was talking to the wife and she decided that me owning two bikes, while somewhat irresponsible, was doable. So, I will be taking delivery of my new to me 2004 CBR this weekend, I hope. I will now be able to keep with the the boys I have been riding with. For some reason, there's this long stretch of road that no matter how fast I am going, I always get passed. Then, because of the heft of the motorcycle (in addition to my own additional built in luggage), the twisties should be a little more fun.
I am keeping the FJR for now. We will see how it works out, which ride I ride when. Perhaps the CBR will be a nice track day/sunday with the boys machine..
Of course, they did like the back seat when I had to haul one of the guys around..
Slightly off topic... I went to look at one CBR. He was asking a small amount for it, so I decided to peek in on it. Another 2004, but Red. He told me it had gone down in a low speed 15 mph fallover. So, when I first entered the house, he told me it had to be sold because he ran from the cops and got a felony evading arrest. Then he proceeded to tell me that he had a habit of it, including putting in switches to kill off the all the lights so when he ran at night it was harder to follow him.
Hmmm...
Then I see the machine. 34K miles. Hard, hard miles.
Not a single piece of clean plastic. Every single piece was either cracked or missing large chunks. He said on the phone that it would need a new chain. Silly me, I was thinking the chain might be a little worn. Ummm, no. It came off while he was riding it and tore up the tail. I couldn't ride it. I didn't want to. But, then he shows me a wiring hardness that has been cut and shows lots of lights on the instrument cluster. Holy cow.
Needless to say, I found a great ride at a nice price. Mine is basically all set up with a new rear set, smoke and original screen, Two Bros slip on, 1 down in the front sprocket (with the original), good rubber, and a couple other mods. So, I won't have to do squat to it. And 5500 miles. He was an instructor with RideSmart here in Texas. And he either wants a VStrom or an FJR. But, he is concerned about the price of the FJR (new baby).
So, get out there, look for another bike and get well soon. And get to riding..!
