Before I mounted the mirrors this year, I was on a ride to Mt. Hamilton with MadMike2, Brodie, JB, and Puppychow heading through the Delta. I was leading, and with the OEM mirrors couldn't really see behind to monitor the other riders. I snapped this picture over my shoulder to save of the group behind me...That's exactly what I used to have to do. For the longest time I was actually ok with it. Like you, I figured it was just one of the quirks of owning an FJR.Bringing in my elbows and shuffling in the seat to see behind me is all part of the experience.![]()
I never really thought about it until one afternoon I was riding my mountain bike with my daughter following. I went to look back to make sure she was still close and I tucked my right elbow in and moved left. That's when I realized I had had enough. Muscle memory says a lot.
I would never go back to those bs OEM mirrors.

Yep, no one is home, and I didn't even know it until I looked at the picture preview
I forgot everyone was pulling over to memorialize where Brodie had an unfortunate head-on encounter with a truck. So I rode back to rejoin the group. That pretty much told me I needed better rear vision. Just look at all those extra-long antenna. I had mirror envy.
