The bike arrive on Wed night at 11:00 pm got to love the truck drivers commitment to meeting my Thursday delivery deadline. It started to rain almost as soon as the back tire touched my driveway. Dealer had forgot to put my 30 day temps on the bike. Called the dealer first thing in the morning and he told me he had mailed the plate's by two day on Mon. Told him that was not a satisfactory answer. He will now give me the 4 year yes coverage for $350.00 to make up for this. He faxed me a sales receipt and I run down to the local DMV and get a 7 day temp registration to get me through the holiday weekend. Get back home pack all my camping gear on the new bike and take off for the first leg of trip to visit my dad in Hettinger. The sad thing is he will not remember I was there. The first 80 miles Wind blowing 30 to 50 mph raining hard off and on Stop and get my first gas and some hot coffee. Went the next 60 miles now poring, stopped at a wide part of the road called Reva and more coffee. Finished the trip to Hettinger with rain dropping off but still the high wind still managed to get 46 miles to a gallon. Spent evening and next morning with may Father, he has decided he is joining the Navy so he is not too unhappy for now. Went to meet the rest of the crew in Bowman late Friday morning Wind still blowing like crazy but at my back for this trip MPG fluxing between 60 and 70. From Bowman we head North to the Medora and the ND Badlands where we will camp Till Sunday Wind from the side raining off and on I ended up getting 42 MPG over all.
Rained like crazy and wind gusts up to 60 miles and hour cold wet and miserable camp out When it did not quit raining by mid afternoon Got a hotel room so at least I could start the trip back home dry. Sunday Ride back home again high wind but now out of the west, mid 30 MPG with bike loaded with me and all the camp gear. Raining off and on for first 100 miles.
This Bike is great even with the miserable weather it is a great machine to ride. The rider protection is more than adequate Even the hard side winds and passing trucks did not jerk around the bike too much. My rear end held up better than it ever did on my old Venture and of course alway much more power in reserve even with out going over 4500 RPM. Got a lot better gas mileage also. I am now Looking forward to some nice weather to ride in but not today. Only 46 degrees out and the say it will rain again today. Same forecast for tomorrow. I will go out for a short ride in the Black hills today even an miserable ride is better than no ride.
