The bike arrive on Wed night at 11:00 pm got to love the truck drivers commitment to meeting my Thursday delivery deadline. It started to rain almost as soon as the back tire touched my driveway. Dealer had forgot to put my 30 day temps on the bike. Called the dealer first thing in the morning and he told me he had mailed the plate's by two day on Mon. Told him that was not a satisfactory answer. He will now give me the 4 year yes coverage for $350.00 to make up for this. He faxed me a sales receipt and I run down to the local DMV and get a 7 day temp registration to get me through the holiday weekend. Get back home pack all my camping gear on the new bike and take off for the first leg of trip to visit my dad in Hettinger. The sad thing is he will not remember I was there. The first 80 miles Wind blowing 30 to 50 mph raining hard off and on Stop and get my first gas and some hot coffee. Went the next 60 miles now poring, stopped at a wide part of the road called Reva and more coffee. Finished the trip to Hettinger with rain dropping off but still the high wind still managed to get 46 miles to a gallon. Spent evening and next morning with may Father, he has decided he is joining the Navy so he is not too unhappy for now. Went to meet the rest of the crew in Bowman late Friday morning Wind still blowing like crazy but at my back for this trip MPG fluxing between 60 and 70. From Bowman we head North to the Medora and the ND Badlands where we will camp Till Sunday Wind from the side raining off and on I ended up getting 42 MPG over all.

Rained like crazy and wind gusts up to 60 miles and hour cold wet and miserable camp out When it did not quit raining by mid afternoon Got a hotel room so at least I could start the trip back home dry. Sunday Ride back home again high wind but now out of the west, mid 30 MPG with bike loaded with me and all the camp gear. Raining off and on for first 100 miles.

This Bike is great even with the miserable weather it is a great machine to ride. The rider protection is more than adequate Even the hard side winds and passing trucks did not jerk around the bike too much. My rear end held up better than it ever did on my old Venture and of course alway much more power in reserve even with out going over 4500 RPM. Got a lot better gas mileage also. I am now Looking forward to some nice weather to ride in but not today. Only 46 degrees out and the say it will rain again today. Same forecast for tomorrow. I will go out for a short ride in the Black hills today even an miserable ride is better than no ride.

y'all are sure a friendly bunch I get a better welcome from the HD guys.
I don't get it.

Me thinks that after 1hr 21 min passed from his 1st post (a lifetime, evidently) ;) , he was somewhat dissapointed that us lazy ass FJR owners hadn't rolled out the welcome mat yet.

Ha! He's lucky anybody's here to reply on Memorial day. We should all be out camping, picnicking, or riding... or any combination thereof.

That's just what I was gonna say ^^^^^ . Just got in from some festivities myself, and heading out for some more. Just a quick check while I'm home.

I had a rainy windy ride myself a couple of months ago, so I know how it feels. Only a hundred miles to get home from Pensacola, but leaning toward the shoulder to keep straight. At night. Interesting.

Congrats on the bike, and good on ya for getting something from the dealer for the tag screwup.

You've seen the bin-o-facts section about looking for other dealer screw-ups, i.e. assembly errors?

I appears to be put together properly every thing is working great, I do not know what the throttle complaint is about, it can be jerky if you are not careful but with a little TLC till you are engaged and then roll it on an no problems it is one great bike I am sure I could find some nits to pick but over all I am very happy and with the weather I broke it in under I could have been one hell of a lot more miserable. A few spurts of hard acceleration warmed the soul up if nothing else.

You must have had good rain gear on to injoy that ride.Welcome to the forum.
Na 10 people read it and no one said boo.

Well, some of us maybe. Here is what I had to deal with over the weekend.

No water damage at my place, thankfully. No riding though :angry2:

Good for you! Its not the kind of weather I look forward to in breaking in a new ride. I pick mine up on Friday, 4 days but who is counting? I have about a 1600 mile ride before I get it home and to tell you the truth if I never put on my rain gear that would be just fine!

Looks a lot like what we had where I went. creeks are out of the banks all over. You were in the same storm front we were in.

It wasn't quite enjoy but if I had to be miserable doing it on an FJR is the best you can hope for. Have good running mates with you also helps.

Spook,

It only gets better ... Weather in the Washington DC area was just about perfect. And there were so many bikes out you could really hone your "wave". And where ever we went, cager traffic was really light. Stopped for fluid many times and saw many bikers. Always told them their bike was sweet looking (didn't see any FJR because I guess they are so fast I can't catch them with just an FJR). My buddy has a Honda ST1300 and we really had a blast.

Today we went 220 miles and crossed some mountains. It was a little warm today (90 degF). Crossing the mountains, there was no one in front of us for miles and we could go at our own speed. The FJR was great. The AE was excellent. All my left hand had to do was wave. And the FJR said I got 47 mpg on that trip.

Definately do the G2 at your convenience. It makes a difference. I think my handlebars came in the middle position and we moved these back a few weeks ago and this makes a little difference. And the very inexpensive "Grip Puppies" makes a difference too. And in the meantime, any sort of "Cramp Buster" is a good idea until you decide to upgrade.

FYI, my buddy sold his HD to get the ST. You can tell he is happy because he can't wipe the grin off his face. Can you imagine how happy he would be if he bought a bike that started with F and ended with R? And if he got the Centurium Silver one (the fast one) with the Spencer seat mod, he might never have to go back home again (except to change clothes).

Just a suggestion, instead of going to the Badlands, try heading south to the Goodlands.

Enjoy the FJR. It is the **** regardless of what anyone says.

We do a Badland run every year for Memorial day. We get together with our mates from Fargo ND and a MT chapter plus a couple from MN. Most years we have at least a couple of good days but this year it just wasn't in the cards. The next big run will be to Black Rive fall for our international get together. Now there are way too many straight roads on that trip. This Bike still beats the hell out of my old venture and has some nice features my FJ-1200 did not have so I think I will be happy for a long time.
