Hi to all. I just put new rubber on my 08 fjr. and she had 8k on the clock. I guess I rode a little hard but man what a blast. While changing the rear tire I decided to check the splines while I was at it. I was very happy that I did because the splines were all but dry. I used Honda's Moly 60 on the splines and it all was a pretty easy job. So far I have followed the advice of other members and have installed a Cee Baily 4x2 windshield, heli bars which has increased my enjoyment of riding this bike a bunch. Please listen to these guys they are a warehouse of knowledge and can make your life a lot easier. Later. Snowman13

Snowman,

Yamama is known to err on the side of stingyness with grease. I assume by using the plural that you included the U-Joint lube as well. Excellent instruction here:

U-Joint lube

I've been doing drive shaft every tire change and u-joint every other. I also use the Honda moly goop.

And you're right this is a fantastic resource for FJR knowledge.

Happy Spring!

just a warning: some ball-busters will take issue with you claiming to be riding hard and getting 8K on a set of tires. Some folks are lucky to get half that. Others report getting over 10K. Really doesn't matter- as long as you're enjoying it.

Yep, once you have the rear wheel off a grand total of 4 nuts have to be removed in order to grease the spline and driveshaft - very very easy and very much worth it.

I am waiting for the ball busters, I thought about that after I posted it. I have been on the slow *** Harleys for years where getting 10k on tires was beating the hell out of it. I have it coming.

After reading some posts on splines, I greased mine. But decided to try the (wow, is that stuff expensive) Krytox grease. At about $55 for a two ounce tube, I hoped for my milage to double and all farkles be self installing. Haven't noticed any difference, but I will pull it apart next winter to see what it looks like and keep you posted.
