Hey folks. I was fortunate enough last weekend (9/26-27/08) to take the Feej from Kennesaw (GA) up to Tellico Plains and over to Robbinsville NC via the Cherohala Skyway for an overnight stay in Robbinsville. Lots of good riding in that area as everyone knows. But I wanted to share with the group about an awesome route back down to N Ga. I took highway 28 from Fontana (where I saw a highspeed lowside by a kneedragger who inadvertently dragged hard parts - he was OK) all the way to Franklin, NC, then on to Highlands NC, and further still almost to Pine Mountain, Ga. That whole stretch was great. Some areas did not have ideal quality of road surface, but most was great, and the curves, mountains, amazing vistas, roadside waterfalls and rivers were fantastic.
Just before coming into Pine Mountain GA I took a right onto Warwoman Road over to Clayton. This was another awesome, twisty, beautiful country/mountain road.
By the end of Saturday, I had logged 663 miles, saw dozens of gas stations with no gas, developed the dreaded "cupping" on my front OEM Bridgestone, but had a truly fantastic ride. Cupping nothwithstanding, the Feej performed flawlessly, especially considering I had just performed the Barbarian Jumper Mod. Great mod, that. Also, only great things to say about Dragon's Rest Cabins in Robbinsville. Nothing fancy, but all the creature comforts, great price, nice couple who are the owners, and amazing scenery from the back porch. Can't wait to get back!
Stats and trivia should you be interested:
Miles - 663
MPG - 46
Previous miles with no apparent evidence of cupping - about 4000, then rip!
No ECU replacement yet, but I did notice some coughing and spitting on decel when up on top of the Skyway (~5000 feet). No problems with gas on.
Number of very high speed low sides witnessed - 1
Number of idle speed U turns witnessed resulting in drops and subsequent broken parts - 3
Number of minutes between 1st and 3rd idle speed drops witnessed - 1
Number of idle speed u turn drops occuring to me (on this trip) - 0, whew
Note - we all came upon the kneedraggers on 28 at the Little Tennesee River crossing and wanted to go back to watch. Forunately, I had already learned my lesson about idle speed u turns on top heavy motorcycles when you are distracted and trying to hurry cause your butt's in the middle of the road blah blah blah.
Thanks for letting me rant. Enjoy!
