Hello

The weather is still cold around here and the forecast says it will take another week or more untill the spring will come(ironically, February had better temperatures). So I will start with some of my old rides and also the first with the FJR.

I previously owned a Yamaha DT125R, a Honda NX650 Dominator and a Honda XL650R Transalp which were all dual-porpouse bikes, so I didn't had too much experience with touring bikes(I had the chance to participate to a BMW Test Day and I tried a R1200RT, a K1300R and a K1600GT). For my first ride with the FJR I thought it should be in a empty parking lot to get used to it. It supposed to be heavy and somehow wierd but wasn't. However, I found the FJR to feel light and nimble after just a few minutes and on the road to the parking lot I decided to take a short trip which became longer and longer(finally almost 200km) even though was a cold 31 Octomber.

November came with good weather and I had a nice afternoon ride to a nearby lake. Here I found that FJR has good suspensions even on rough roads.

Unfortunately the autumn was almost gone...

And with another short ride at the begining of December the 2012 season was gone. But the winter was very light and in the middle of January I got the FJR back on the roads.

A short ride with a friends.

Two weeks ago me and my girlfriend took a trip to a Zoo in another city. It was the first ride with passenger and also my first longer ride with the new bike. but was perfect. Unfortunately the Zoo is in another era and far from the modern standards.

Thank you both!

Unfortunately the European Union didn't made as many changes as romanians dreamt back in 2007 and the Zoo is an example. Also the roads, the incomes, and a long long list...

I'm looking forward for a one day trip(~520km) to Transfagarasan Highway in August. Until then the 2 meters snow cover will be gone and also the weather will be good(especially in the last 2 weeks of the month and in the first 2 of September). I will ride only on the north side because the roads on the south part are in bad conditions(another county).

I also been there back in 2010 and had a beautifull late afternoon:

A little part of Transilvania

Hi again, Vlad.

Thanks for the photos and ride reports. Your photos are as inviting as any travel brochure - and not ten minutes ago I told my bride that we should add Romania to our destination list. What a coincidence!

Looking forward to more reports & photos from you.

Vlad, as a naturally born Romanian in America, WELCOME to the club brother!

The pics are amazing and I completely understand what you mean by the zoo being from era's gone by.

When I went back to visit in 98' Jimbolia hadn't changed either. Keep the posts going.

Thanks for the great photos from another part of the world...

Good to see that an FJR is appreciated over there as well.

Edit: wrote to a family living the rural life near Deva as part of a penpal project 20 years ago.

Welcome...and thanks for posting.

Romania is a nice destination for an eastern european/balkan tour(something like Hungary - Romania - Bulgaria - Greece / Hungary - Romania - Serbia - Montenegro - Croatia) . We have nice landscapes but it can be dissapointing from some points of view(for example visiting the capital Bucharest - it's crowded, loud, full of comunist buildings). In the last year the asphalt quality of Transfagarasan Highway(which is the main motorcyclist atraction) got pretty bad and for 20km on the southern part it's horrible. However, this year will be finished Transalpina Highway(click), a superb road through mountains. Also, we have some nice medieval cities(Sibiu, Brasov or Sighisoara) or castels(at Hunedoara, Bran and Sinaia).

If you or somebody else is interested to visit Romania I will help with the route and advices(just sent me a messege).

Thank you! Nice to know I'm not the only romanian on this forum.

Welcome from here too. Looking forward to seeing more of your part of the world. What does Yamaha call that color? Haven't seen it here at all. Looks good, too.
The color is tehno-jade. It was available only in Europe for 2003-2004 models.

Since last post spring arrived and the weather was great for riding. Some pics:

Fantastic views of your part of the world... some friends of mine rode in Romania last year and they loved it... looks like I have yet another place to add to the ever growing bucket list... wish someone would make time stop going by so quickly so I could get to everything! ;)
