I don't get it. I have the Merc if folks wanna ride along. Frank, it's him and me. Period.

I gotta admit, it's a great-looking rig...not for me, though. My kid would love it; he kept going back to sit in the Ural sidecars at last year's CycleShow. But can you put a urinal in a Ural? Hmmm..

Almost every weekend I see a group of 4 motorcycles, one with a side car. The passenger in the side car is a boy ~12 years old with a pretty severe neurological problem of some sort, nothing works very well. The look on his face when they are out riding is priceless. When we get a chance, we talk with this boy and there are two things that he really loves in life -- his dog and his motorcycle rides.

It still remains a sin to side car an FJR.

That's the ticket, after I hit 100k, my warranty expires and I get a new FJR. Rather than sell what will still be a great bike for a reduced price, a sidecar could be added and make the FJR a truly four season rig, even in the snow.

Do you know what kind of sidecar and attachment set up was utilized?

If it's the only way for some to ride, or take family members....good for them....each to their own....as long as they riding....who cares....like ionbeam said....the young boy loves it....so where's the harm....better an FJR....then a piece of junk....ride & let ride....just ride!

Thats not really evan an FJR anymore.
+1 - it is not a motorcycle as we know and love them.

It is reputedly a very fast good handling sports car for a fraction of the price of a comparably performing Ferrari. Id like to take it for a spin.

Well, the FJ1200 powetrain is used in 3/4 size race cars due to its reliability. The endurance proven powertrain of the FJR would be hard to beat for this kind of application where you're adding a bunch of weight to the bike. Heck...if you're going to add a sidecar, the FJR might be the rig of choice.

Really. Why would any1 do that to a powerful and great handling sport-tourer? Especially when you can import a cool-*** complete Russian or Chinese military sidecar bike on ebay for less than $4k? WTF. Oh well, to each their own? :p

Powerful and great handling...you answered your own question. Chinese and Russian rigs = junk.

PTP
Well, taking a great handling Feejer and putting a sidecar on it deletes the great handling. :dribble:

Those Chinese and Russian sidecar bikes are typically a BMW R12, R71, R75, M72, or CJ750 platform. Hence, not junk.

I'd really like to look over this rig with all the plastic removed. I wonder how/where the attachment points are on this and how is the suspension handled?

Sounds like you had a fun day out Hal.
