I went down many, many years ago dragging hard parts on the street on a Suzuki GS1100. Thank God I missed the guard rail and only sustained minor injuries, the bike on the other hand flipped end over end and was destroyed. I have not cornered THIS aggressively on the street since then. Too many nasty roadside things to hit. The minute the peg feelers touch down, I'm good. As the saying goes: "If you want to go faster, take it to the track".

OMG. I agree with the 'zilla for the first time in history. Yeah, his form isn't perfect, but it's better than mine. Yeah, he missed the apex, but there aren't any crash pictures so he made it through the turn. Maybe he was ridding a bit too fast on the dragon, but he was out there while I was at the office.

Um thanks, but that's not me you're agreeing with. Did you just corn-fuse me with Skooter?? Dammit. What is this world coming to?

Also, it hurts my feelings that youve never agreed with me before. I work very hard to be agreeable!

As for the pictures, anyone notice that the bike with the least lean angle is the POS with the car tire on it? Must be a poor rider from a southwestern state!

Damn buncha fogies having short-term memory problems, too. Wait, what were we talking about?

Sounds like you need to get out and ride...

Zilla, check the tags.... same tag with and without car tire?
That's Skooters '09...he swings from both sides of the plate!

I just posted on another thread that that other thread was my favorite FJR forum thread. This one is better. Especially Scooter's post. **** THEM *******!

But seriously, that body positioning....and that car tire...wait, what the *$#^@#!??

Interesting...

If you compare the two SkooterG photos, and flip the second one horizontally so they are leaning in the same direction, you can see that he is leaned to very nearly the same angle in both photos.

But look how much added clearance there is to the muffler and header pipes in the underbelly with the car tire. That added clearance is not accounted for by the small difference in lean angle. And I'm pretty sure that is the same bike, though he may have done some suspension work to it after the first picture. Things that make you go hmmm...

Well done Fred! Same bike. Same suspension. Both photos from the Dragon. Round tire was summer of 2013. Car tire fall of 2014. Car tire photo I was more heavily loaded.

I have always said the car tire gives you more ground clearance and increases max lean angle because it raises the rear and when leaned over you are on the 'edge' keeping height relatively constant whereas the ride height is lowered with the moto tire as you lean as you roll onto the smaller diameter portion of the tire.

Now, with the car tire you do need more lean angle to get the same amount of turn arc since the contact patch is more off center from the center-line of the bike.

^^^^^^^ Damn. I actually understood what he said. Nice technique, too.

Nice technique in the first photo dragging a knee, except for having your head and shoulders well over the painted centerline in that second picture

, but I'm sure he could see there was no oncoming traffic.

(By the way, I'm totally just kidding. I wish my cornering technique was half as good.)

Piff..anybody can grind hard parts on the Dragon with most street bikes. After riding it a couple years ago I am of firm belief the only proper bike for that tight road is a 250 supermoto. JMHO

Pfffffft!!!!!!

Who wouldn't want to ride the Dragon on a 250 Supermoto? Or even a 125 Supermoto, or FZ-07, or one of a dozen small light bikes........

But you know what? I don't think I will be riding any of those bikes anytime soon from Phoenix to Tennessee. That does not sound like fun at all. But the FJR lets me get to all kinds of cool places across the whole country where I can enjoy a variety of Moto experiences and meet up with all kinds of cool folks.

So............

to your 'JMHO'!

I've got time for the dragon, time enough for multiple trips, now that the year is winding up. But road slime and leaves are prevalent this late in the year. Might go anyway. This late in the year, the only way you're getting a photographer out there is to blow yourself up on a turn.

Well after looking at these photo's i can't see to much wrong with slapping on a 190/55-18 on the rear to get that little extra rear height for ground clearance. That scrapping the pegs really pisses me off at times when i want to have a bit of fun.
