I realize that there are dozens of threads on this, and after reading for 2 hours, I wasnt able to find my question answered.

For those of you who have been bitten, was the failure because you had tapped into the factory harness? Or, do the spiders fail even without added farkles?

I have an 09 with Yama heated grips. I also added a garmin gps and soem powerlite sockets for charging phones, ipods, etc. However, mine are all grounded directly to distribution blocks connected right to the battery. I have two blocks, one for +, one for -.

I havent checked my S connectors, and I'm wondering after all that reading that maybe I should? I will also be going to a dealer soon and have the VIN checked, as I dont remember what recall work has been done. I'm the original owner =)

Thanks.

As far as I'm aware this has nothing to do with installing additional loads. It has everything to do with very minor corrosion in the 'spiders' which creates a slight increase in resistance. The increased resistance coupled with high(ish) current causes overheating. Heating is a function of i² x R (Current squared times resistance). With zero resistance there can not be a heating effect. It's the heat that fries the spider.

AFAIK the single best way to prevent spider bite is to open all of your spiders, pull the metal linking connector, and spray with ACF-50 This will prevent corrosion and without corrosion there will not be any additional resistance.

There were two 'fixes' available from forum members Brodie & RoadRunner. I believe Brodie has stopped making his version. You will have to investigate and see if RoadRunner (Art Cooper) is still making his version.

No, I'm not making them any more. Not enough demand. If you get the factory fix installed then solder the S6 wires together there will be no more problamo.
