Had a not dissimilar event, posted it here. At least I wasn't actually being fined, merely getting a mark on my record (bad enough). In the end I got a very rapid apology.

And, yes, motorists in the UK are always guilty unless they can go through all sorts of threats, hoops and expense to prove they are innocent.

Four county police cars came screaming up the driveway and they basically surrounded the house.

Went out to check on the commotion. It seems that they were chasing "a red crotch rocket" and it got away, but now before they got the license number.

That number was registered to me. In the interest of cooperation, I showed them them the bike with the offending license number.... a gray Suzuki DR650. Everyone makes mistakes, I guess.

From CADOT to Mr Carver,
"Dear sir,

We stand corrected. That is obviously not your bike crossing the bridge. We will withdraw our request for the listed fine. However, we notice from your self provided, unsolicited pictures that your chrome free motorcycle is utilizing unauthorized after market exhaust. You appear to have excessive lighting attached to the front of your motorcycle, all those stickers are a distraction to other drivers, and your tires are not within CA regulated specifications. We have also noted that you are utilizing the top-case and side bags simultaneously, which is a clear violation of Yamaha's owner's manual, forcing us to declare your vehicle as unsafe.

Normally, we would tow and crush your motorcycle, but since you seem reasonable, we are simply going to fine you $4,375.28, due within 30 days of the receipt of this letter.

Thank you for your cooperation, and thank you for not avoiding the tolls on our bridges.

Sincerly;

Your Friends at the CADOT"
Well.... It is Calif.........oh, never mind!

About ten years ago I was in Atlanta at a conference. I had a rental car and was staying at a downtown hotel that offered only valet parking. They kept the car in a garage several blocks away. The valets all appeared to be young guys from Kenya.

Four months after getting home to AK I get a letter from the Atlanta Court system with a $65 fine for running a red light. Included is a very good picture of the rental car with a smiling Kenyan teenager at the wheel. I suspect they drove through every red light just for fun when they knew they were in a rental car. I took the easy way out since the fine was due in just a few days.

I had a notice from the fine folks that run the 407 toll highway in Toronto that said I was on the other side of Toronto in January on the bike. The plate number they listed was from a deactivated plate that I had from about 10 years ago that I have in a box in my garage. It had snowed 5" that day and was -10oC. It took me a few hours on the phone being bounced around to various departments before I finally reached someone who had the imagination to figure out that it was very unlikely I was riding on a snowy highway in January on an old dirt bike in the Great White North.

Was it fun? :D

Don't get me started on the 407 weenies. Its happend a few times when I'm travelling on the 407, I'll get a bill, the person I'm riding with, nothing. The other thing is, if I'm spending that kind of money to ride your road, I should be able to do it as fast as I deem safe.

Maybe HRZ can help out on this. Theoretically, all they have is your motorcycle going through the toll gate. They don't know who was riding it. How can you be held responsible for what some unknown person was doing on "your" bike?

I have been told that going past the cameras in excess of 160 kph and the cameras can't get a photo of the plate. Don't ask me how I know that this appears to be true.

Can I rant about the stop lights blown that are on my record because our cars are in my name (first) and my wife has refused to learn "right turn on red AFTER STOP"?
Yes.

So whenever you two have a good fight, you get a reminder a couple weeks later when a half dozen citations show up in the mail? Sounds worthy of a rant to me.

My wife and I put about 40k miles on two of our bikes, including at least 30 border crossings, before I noticed we had the tags for the bikes mismatched.
Why would you be swapping tags on bikes? In the 3 states where I've registered vehicles, the tags are assigned to the vehicle and go with the vehicle when sold. I've lives in more states than that but coasted off my other-state-registrations when doing so (military, student, etc.).

All of these reports brings to mind the current "hobby" of "SWATting".

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=swatting]https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=swatting

It's ended with guns drawn on unsuspecting people. I don't know if it's gone "all the way" to tragedy yet but it's only a matter of time. One IT Security guy got SWATted because of his journalism work that exposes cyber criminals involved in card skimmers, ID theft, etc.

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2013/03/the-world-has-no-room-for-cowards/]https://krebsonsecurity.com/2013/03/the-world-has-no-room-for-cowards/ and

https://krebsonsecurity.com/tag/swat/]https://krebsonsecurity.com/tag/swat/

These military-style "dynamic" responses will eventually end in tragedy since they are designed to kill people and break things (hence the "military" in their origins).
Dude, don't let that crap scare you. That's total urban myth BS. SWAT teams are auxiliary units. They are activated by the first responders who show up at a call, realize it has gone down hill, and then request SWAT. It has nothing to do with "militarization" of anything. I cannot think of one instance where SWAT would be activated before anyone even knows what the Hell is going on.
Probably 80% of the calls we go to sound like they will require SWAT to fix, but in reality, a couple field guys handle it just fine. The idea that we show up to every call, dressed in tac vests and throwing flashbangs at everything we see is some idiots TV inspired wet dream. It doesn't happen that way.

Figure this: people can call and say whatever they want to 911. They dont even have to spoof a number. I've shown up at a bank robbery with hostages that turned out to be a pissed off customer calling 911 from a lobby phone to be funny. SWAT never showed up.

Oh, well,in that case, For 5 years I sent SWAT on every traffic stop I made. Since I was on the team, I must have been just raring to shoot someone. OF COURSE SWAT GOES TO SERVE SOME WARRANTS. Unlike the world you live in with rainbows and unicorns, some people are extremely violent when they know the cops are coming. Don't be so gullible, and if you insist on believing anything the ACLU says, you should probably start another thread, as this is borderline thread jacking.

Yes. This was a hijack and dancing on the wrong side of political, so I warn myself as I reread the above. My apologies and political/hijack content I posted has been removed.

Well, I wasn't SWATed, but a couple of Victoria city cops once rousted me out of bed at 0300 in order to ask me about abandoning my motorcycle, on fire, in the middle of downtown...

Exhibiting my XS11, unscathed and garaged satisfied them.
