Well.... It is Calif.........oh, never mind!From CADOT to Mr Carver,
"Dear sir,
We stand corrected. That is obviously not your bike crossing the bridge. We will withdraw our request for the listed fine. However, we notice from your self provided, unsolicited pictures that your chrome free motorcycle is utilizing unauthorized after market exhaust. You appear to have excessive lighting attached to the front of your motorcycle, all those stickers are a distraction to other drivers, and your tires are not within CA regulated specifications. We have also noted that you are utilizing the top-case and side bags simultaneously, which is a clear violation of Yamaha's owner's manual, forcing us to declare your vehicle as unsafe.
Normally, we would tow and crush your motorcycle, but since you seem reasonable, we are simply going to fine you $4,375.28, due within 30 days of the receipt of this letter.
Thank you for your cooperation, and thank you for not avoiding the tolls on our bridges.
Sincerly;
Your Friends at the CADOT"
Was it fun?I had a notice from the fine folks that run the 403 toll highway in Toronto that said I was on the other side of Toronto in January on the bike. The plate number they listed was from a deactivated plate that I had from about 10 years ago that I have in a box in my garage. It had snowed 5" that day and was -10oC. It took me a few hours on the phone being bounced around to various departments before I finally reached someone who had the imagination to figure out that it was very unlikely I was riding on a snowy highway in January on an old dirt bike in the Great White North.
I have been told that going past the cameras in excess of 160 kph and the cameras can't get a photo of the plate. Don't ask me how I know that this appears to be true.Don't get me started on the 407 weenies. Its happend a few times when I'm travelling on the 407, I'll get a bill, the person I'm riding with, nothing. The other thing is, if I'm spending that kind of money to ride your road, I should be able to do it as fast as I deem safe.
Yes.Bounce said:Can I rant about the stop lights blown that are on my record because our cars are in my name (first) and my wife has refused to learn "right turn on red AFTER STOP"?

Dude, don't let that crap scare you. That's total urban myth BS. SWAT teams are auxiliary units. They are activated by the first responders who show up at a call, realize it has gone down hill, and then request SWAT. It has nothing to do with "militarization" of anything. I cannot think of one instance where SWAT would be activated before anyone even knows what the Hell is going on.Bounce said:Why would you be swapping tags on bikes? In the 3 states where I've registered vehicles, the tags are assigned to the vehicle and go with the vehicle when sold. I've lives in more states than that but coasted off my other-state-registrations when doing so (military, student, etc.).My wife and I put about 40k miles on two of our bikes, including at least 30 border crossings, before I noticed we had the tags for the bikes mismatched.
All of these reports brings to mind the current "hobby" of "SWATting".

It's ended with guns drawn on unsuspecting people. I don't know if it's gone "all the way" to tragedy yet but it's only a matter of time. One IT Security guy got SWATted because of his journalism work that exposes cyber criminals involved in card skimmers, ID theft, etc.

These military-style "dynamic" responses will eventually end in tragedy since they are designed to kill people and break things (hence the "military" in their origins).
