This is one change I would consider. Can it be done on the 08 and any recommendations, feedback good or bad?

No one's done it here. HID lighting isn't legal for street use, with very few exceptions...

What's HID? Not legal? Ooh, I'm interested....

Not sure what they are, but I think they look like this..

Going to be tough keeping 'em lit at speed not to mention the mounting issues.

:jester:

I heard they look more like this:

...which would be much more practical.

Or we just let it roll off ;)

I'm going to tease a subject here that I'll be posting more about soon. I'm about ready to get a set of lights installed that are not even on the market yet. To the best of my knowledge they're actually something new, not just from a new manufacturer, but it's possible there is something similar out there already--but I don't think so. These lights are mounted down on the hub of the front wheel to give that conspicuous "triangle" shape that some consider best for other drivers to notice an approaching motorcycle. The really cool thing to me is they're super-bright LEDs (3 bulbs per light) that have a different--and much more piercing--wavelength than your headlights. Since the color is so different, it's also supposed to make them stand out more, not only from your own headlights, but also from the other lights on the road. This makes depth perception easier for the other driver, and easier to tell your distance from him.

Also, being LED, they draw very little power, and they'll be on a dimmer switch so you can turn them up at night to get a lot of extra seeing power as well as "being seen" power. (And LEDs last.) Disclaimer: I don't know yet how they'll compare for brute brightness with something like the Solteks. In fact, I don't see how they could be that bright, but they will help light up the night, and better yet, you can leave them ON--all the time--so the other folks will be seeing YOU.

I hope--and expect--to have them on my bike for the CFR, and I'll definitely post about them once I can give them a fair test. As I said, they're not yet on the market. The developer has the prototype set on his BMW (the local Beemer dealer already wants to carry them) and he used my FJR to take his measurements so he can mount them on FJRs. (He's also going to fit them to Gen II's.) The housings are being fabricated elsewhere, then they'll be ready.

Hope nobody minds my tagging onto this thread--I don't mean to hijack it, but just wanted to let you all know about something coming shortly that might be another, lower wattage, alternative for extra after-market lighting. And I'm NOT in business at all with the local guy who's making these. Just impressed by them and passing it along.

I run Soltek HID's, just like ToeCutters pictured above. I can run at full O'Dark thirty as if in daylight. 'Nuff said?

HID lighting is legal in Texas and I can say from experience[i have an HID headlight on my '06 Thrux] that the lighting is more focused and BRIGHT even in daytime. I live in the deep boonies and leave for work at 5:30 in the dark AM. The light is focused on the road but also shines from ditch to ditch on a two lane where critters jump out and try to kill you as they commit suicide. What I REALLY like is slowpokes get out of the way to let you pass cause they don't like that light in their mirrors.
