Leaving Slimey Crud in Wisconsin today... found myself next to a 1600GT model in the middle of a divided rural highway waiting for traffic to pass so we could merge on. Well after the last of the cars passed he looked back, saw me behind him, and he hit it. I was a couple bike lengths behind him and opened up the FJR just after him, but by the time I was near the top of 2nd gear I was a bike or two length ahead of him. I've test ridden a K1600 and I know he was WOT, you can really hear those things. His neck snapped to the left as I rolled by him. I came away again thinking that they are a pretty ugly motorcycle, to be honest. Kind of like the offspring of a VStrom hooking up with a ZX-14.

I also rode with a guy on a 2011 Concours today, and he said he thought the FJR was quicker. He came up to me asking what size engine the FJR had after riding a couple hundred miles together. I'm pretty sure the FJR is quicker, although we did not do any side by side roll-ons.

Just thought I'd share.

Reminded me of a ride earlier in the year. I was close to home and had been messing with these two harleys. I let them roll past me and then I would blow by them. they would crank it up again and would slow down and let them by and then blow past them again. I was riding two up and they were solo. Somewhere along the way a third harley got into the mix. We stopped at a light and the first two harleys entered the left turn lane I was in the far right lane and the third guy pulls up between us in the left lane. While we were sitting at the light he was waving and fist pumping. the light turned green and hit it hard. Open pipes. I twisted the throttle and stayed with him until he went WOT when he started to pull away a little. I just rolled a little more throttle and the front tire comes up. I left him in my dust. My wife asks sternly "what are you doing?" i said I didn't want to be behind that loud bike. She then said "well you didn't have to wheelie!" and I said well, yes I did!

Kind of a funny story - the visual of his surprised look.

I'm rather surprised myself that the FJ is quicker considering the superior engineering of the BMW although, when you get into these speeds, just the weight of fuel in the tank seems to make a difference.

I rather like the looks of the Beemer, especially while sitting on it. The saddle bags leave a little to be desired.

FYI

In April some buddys, my brother and I went to the Laughlin River Run. It is a full on Pirate Parade, but we always have fun, so we go.

We had gone on a ride to this little town called Oatman that is outside of Bullhead City on the Arizona side.

On the way back, there was this small group of bikes we were hitting the lights with. This one guy would hammer it from red light to red light, but always end up stopped with us. Same deal with the open pipes, so I thought I'd be funny and let him know he wasn't impressing me.

At the next light, I left him way behind and like him, got caught at the next red. He slowed up a bit, but at the next light, some tool pulled up between us on this big loud chopper. He proceeded to rev the bike to let me know he had about 70 horses dancing under that tank.

So...He raced off. I, of course, being the ass that I am rode next to him until he looked over...Then I pinned the throttle and smoked him.

Patch308 was next to him at that point and nearly fell off his bike laughing because when I hit it, the guy got this dejected look, shook his head and just slowed down.

Of course, we all stopped at the red light to make the left turn over the bridge and into Laughlin. That gut pulled up next to me, gave me that meek, "What's up" wave and then calmly pulled out ahead of me and made his turn. He was done proving himself...

Haha...Assholes racing on the roads. Where the Hell are the cops when you need them??

Bull sheeeet.

It is now 2011.

The FJR has been out since 2001. BMW's supposed superior engineering has taken 10 years to try to get to where the FJR was 10 years ago.

Superior engineering my @ss.

Drink the koolaid if you want, but don't make me breathe the same fumes.

LOL! I knew that would dent a few fragile egos here.

I didn't say I preferred the BMW - I drove two of them before choosing the FJ. But it doesn't take a lot more than common sense to see which is the more 'modern' bike.

Nothing fragile here bub. Just don't pollute the forum with that crap...that's all. If you read the first post in this thread...then common sense would show you which one is the more modern bike.

Just because something has more shit on it means it's "more modern"...my dad's old RV has a lot of shit on it. Doesn't make it modern at all.

Because a bike is faster common sense dictates it's a superior bike? LOL!! Riot.

Feel free to hit my -ve button. It's kinda like a penis enlarger for some.

...so I'm cruising through the desert a couple of weeks ago, minding my own business, loafing along on my FJR at about 60.

Well, up in the sky behind me comes this smartass Air Force dude in his fancy, over-priced F-15. He pulls alongside me and we size each other up.

Pffft. This guy obviously doesn't know what he's dealing with. I downshift into 2nd and you shoulda seen the look on his face!

............jus' sayin'.

Gotta agree with Wheaties on this one. Just because a bike is more modern, or has more gizmos on it does not make it better engineered. It just makes it newer. Which one is faster out of a light doesn't dictate better engineering either.

The bike that is still rolling at 200,000 miles with less maintenance and repair cost is better engineered.

The look on his face said, "Shit...I'm only doing 60 in this 50million dollar airplane. I'm gonna crash and get in trouble. Then the pansy on that bike is gonna try to give me mouth to mouth...Even if I don't need it."

Oh...and Barb??? That was funny!
