Hand Built Bike Show at the Austin Moto GP!
From ex-Texan AZ Beemers Buddy Brian Boles:
As part of the MotoGP festivities, Austin hosted a "Hand Built Bike Show". This would be different from other custom bike shows -
Most of the bikes were bobbers or cafe customs. Very few typical Harley stretches.
It was intended to appeal to a younger audience than the typical custom Harley show. A lot of the bikes started out as cheap older or forgotten models. The Yamaha XS650 was a popular starting point. It wasn't a "take a Harley motor and throw $30,000 worth of chrome and paint at it" show. Most of the bikes probably didn't have more than $5000 in them, but obviously a lot of time and love.
They were definitely trying for a "steampunk" feel to the show. (Google it) They had models, guys and girls, dressed in steampunk fashion acting as hosts. There was a "Wall of Death" act to add to the circus atmosphere.
Sorry about the picture quality, but the lighting in the warehouse was horrible. My camera could not figure it out, using flash or not.
Here's the pix.
