Well , i have been riding my 07 for quite sometime with the stock bar end weights & finally broke down & bought some Salamander`s . Well my bike does have risers (don`t know if it makes a difference) & it has a slight vibration in the bars & it has put my hands too sleep , where the right hand looses feeling up to the pinky (which doesn`t go numb) ?? I have done the Yoda position & still no help , i also have the throttle rocker (only way to keep on the throttle & pinky gets tired) :glare: Well back to the weights, but i installed the Salamanders (he sent me the 2 pounders) & went on a 2-300 mile ride (hwy-back roads- TWISTIES) & my right hand would go numb worse than with the stock wieghts. It`s sure is less than my 05 Concours , as that bike would make my hands go numb & make the right hand feel like it`s on fire (so i tradded it in). Is there anything else i can do to help this ? (dealer did the TB sync 2 months ago & didn`t help) I`m thinking trying some grip covers but figured i`d ask also , bike has 21,000 miles on it so it is some what broken in. (and no i think she`s a keeper)

I have always felt that that the heavier bar weights produce a more noticeable vibration pattern than the stock weights. Weights do NOT eliminate vibration, but instead change the resonant frequency of the bar assembly so that it tends to "vibrate" at a different frequency.

In My Personal Opinion... stock bars and grips on a Gen-II work best with stock weights and Grip Puppies as stated above.

Does the local dealer sell these or some vendor here ??? I have bought some stuff from the person not allowed on this site , & see he sells grip covers but doesn`t say there grip puppy`s . You would think that i-4 motorcycle engines have always vibrated @ 4k rpm for ever & you would think they would cure it by now, as my friends BMW K-LT vibrates at 4K also . Also why do i have to go to the lo-fi version to read all the post ???

The heavier weights may be making the bars vibrate at the same resonant frequency as the engine, causing the bars to buzz more rather than less. Everything structural between the engine and the bars is a factor, and it could be that your choice of risers & bar ends are a bad combination.

Other than that, have you checked the torque on the engine mount bolts?

Well i did install some sliders a little while back & didn`t notice the vibes this bad. I also just retourqed the engine bolts 2 weeks ago (before weight install) I guess i`ll check them again (you never know ??) If it continues i`ll take them off & during my vacation i`ll tackle it again with & without risers & with & without sliders to see what feels best . This vibe thing is not going to beat me , as this is the most fun i have had on a bike in a long time. :D (and meeting new friends is a +)

The reason your hand is going numb is probably that you are gripping the handle bars too tightly and/or putting too much weight on your wrist(s). Because you mention the problem being confined to the right hand, I'm inclined to believe it is due to the dreaded "throttle death grip".

The whole reason to run the throttle rocker is so you no longer have to tightly grip the throttle to keep it from closing. You can ride along with no gripping force exerted on the bars at all, just your hand naturally draped around the bars. Since you turn the bike by pushing on the inside bar, no real need to grip when turning either. You do need to sometimes tighten your grip some momentarily for throttle changes, but its the continuous tight grip that cuts off the circulation and gives you the numbness.

Loosen up your grip and all your problems should go away, even if they are vibration related, the vibes will not transfer into your hands / wrists.

Compared to my '08 CBR600RR my 06 FJR does not vibrate at all. Of course the CBR smoothes out around 14,000 rpm.

Replacing the triple tree with the Heli version helped to reduce vibration in the bars. You might want to give it a try. This clamp is WAY more beefy then the wimpy stock one. Rather pricey, but a group buy is being organized now. You can probably sell your risers to offset a bit of the cost since this clamp will move your bars up and back.

i had the same problem when i first got my FJR. besides grip puppies, i moved the bar position in towards me on the closest setting. that did the trick for me and i no longer get the numb feeling.

How do the puppies effect heated grips?

I still get plenty of heat from my heated grips with grip puppies installed. I have Honda ST1300 heated grips and I'm not sure how that translates to stock FJR heated grips? Installing the puppies did lessen the heat some, but I still have enough heat adjustment range. Max setting with grip puppies is too hot unless temps are down in the teens and even then it's just right.

I do like the thicker grip and noticeable reduction in vibration with them installed. The first set lasted about 20,000 miles before starting to split. Not bad for a $10 investment. :yahoo:

Salamander weights and BMW grips for me. I like them a lot so far, I don't feel much if any annoying vibrations in the handle bars.

My footpegs are another story, I need foot puppies...

That's funny, because the only part of my hand that has ever gone numb on the FJR is the tip of my right hand's pinky finger...

they seem to work the same through the puppies, no problems with my OEM heated grips

Are you putting too much pressure on your wrist. if the pinky is spared it sounds like median nerve compression similar to carpal tunnel. It maybe more pressure rather than vibration. The median nerve involves all the fingers except half of ring finger and pinky.

Btw my heated grips work fine with grip puppies
