Handlebar mounting nut torque

Torquing the handlebar mounting nut to the spec 47 ft lbs worked fine on one side but pulled the stud out of the plate thingy under the triple clamp at 30 ft lbs on the other side. Ordered a new plate thingy from Universal but in the meantime will attempt a washer fix. Anybody else have similar experience?
