:dribble:
Ok, I must be lucky, or someone must looking out for me, first time I ever had the unsettling experience of riding with a slow leak in the rear tire. I couldn't tell tell for sure till I got home, and checked it.
My original Metzler Z4's are shot at a little over 6K miles, new Pirelli Diablo Strada's on order. Thanks, JeffAshe for the recommendation, I hope they will be much better than the original Metzler's on the bike, the handling on the Z4's was unsettling (greasy) in colder temps in the Northeast where I hang.
As luck would have it, before the ride, I dialed in a bit more front compression/rebound damping before the ride, so I was a bit confused at first, thinking the weird handling had something to do with that.
A little voice in the back of my head said , WTF !!!, it can't affect the handling that much.
Once, last winter I let the rear tire get down to about 32 psi and the handling went dowhill in a hurry, especially at a medium pace, trying to crank into corners. I immediately set the front/rear to 40/42 psi and all was well.
The rear was down to about 25 lbs and slowly going down when I parked and checked it. After putting more air in it went down right away. The slow leak is in the center of the rear and it looks like a plug will hold it till I get the new skins later this week. My question is this, has anyone driven on a slow leaker with little or no air and lived to tell about it ?
Especially you guys who ride on the errr..., umm..., aggressive side ?
I consider myself lucky nothing happened, and my sense from low pressure handling this winter was a reminder that things can and do go wrong. This is my first flat on the road, ever, and hopefully my last. Has anyone out there farkled their bike with one of them their fancy wireless air pressure sensors ? And did it save your ass in the event of a slow leak ?
