It all started with a simple question when a business associate in Las Vegas with whom I have become good friends with over the last three or four years asked, "When are you coming to see me, man?" The ball was rolling but with limited time this was one trip that would have to leave the FJR behind. He checked his calendar and I checked airfares and we decided I would visit at the end of July. Our plan was simple, he would pick me up at the airport and we would head to one end of the strip and begin making our way to the other, finding any and all fun available at points in between. So, I climbed aboard the Southwest 737 in Birmingham last Friday for my 4 hour non-stop flight to McCarron International. A few beverages later and I was landing in Sin City.
Soon, my associate welcomed me to what would be my Castle for the next 36 hours, the 27th Floor of the Excalibur Hotel.
He was asked me what I thought of the digs...
Then, we ordered our first of MANY rounds to come. It wasn't long before he was giving everyone the sport touring salute.
Not in a bad way, it was all good. Then we met up with another one of our associates. I'm not sure who the dweeb is in the background with the :dribble: look on his face...
From there, it just started getting kind of silly...
Elvis told me it was time to go to bed. I wasn't about to argue with the King so up to the 27th floor I went. I woke up the next morning to this view.
Another associate asked me if I wanted breakfast...
I asked him why we have to SpongeBob cereal when we can have this is just down the street?
With FULL bellies, we struck out from the Mandalay Bay brunch buffet and next thing you know we were having jello shots in New York.
Then, we find a quaint little spot, the deck of self anointed Party Aficionato Sammy Hagar's Cabbo Wabbo, overlooking one of the busiest streets in the world.
They tried to save us, but we ended up watching a show of a different kind.
I'm not sure how it happened but next thing you know we were in Venice.
There are some tall people in Venice!
But we had to move on... remember, we are on a mission, 2.5 miles in under 36 hours.
So we board the spaceship and wah-la, we are transported to this place, which by the way, if we chose to stay there that night would have been $495 for a "standard" room!
Fancy places have fancy drinks.
But it's getting close to dinnertime and we have a date... so we cab it back to the Castle and put on our fancy pants and hurry over to Mandalay Bay with our dates.
I'm just kidding, actually that's our associate's wife, who only recently became a new mother and is out for one of her first night's out without child.
Here's daddy, eating what appears to be baby's meal.
More fancy drinks... some "turn of the century" Absinthe.
Then it was off to Russia to visit the Red Square.
Then up to the Mix Club on the 67th floor of Mandalay Bay.
where there was some reality show being filmed.
It's time to say good night to my associate, so down the elevator he goes...
and into the dark night.
The Bandit wasn't finished and not long afterwards, met some guys in town from Miami. We took a cab down to the Chandelier Room at The Cosmopolitan. But, as they say, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, so no pics from this chapter, that finally ended with another cab ride back to the Castle around 5 am.
With a 10 am check out... what else but the Breakfast of Champions...
With the 2.5 miles in 36 hours completed, we check out of the Castle. But I still have 24 more hours in Sin City. We'll pick up here when I get back....
