Family (and sum friends w/o a lot of family) all gave thanks, socialized w drink and ate way too much. Oh yeah.. watched some football and let the ole Tryptophan kick-in so laa-la land was a great encore :)

Now it's TGIF, not a bad follow-up, eh? (oh yeah, Sorry Kanada u done did yours already)

Don't be sorry for us KJ.

While we done did our bird thingy already, it's really all about breaking bread with those you care for, being thankful about being able to do this, and some SOBER reflection on how freakin good we all have it.

So while you're sitting there rubbing your outstretched tummy, figure out some nice places for us to rest our heads in the Daks, after we've finished telling lies in the parking lot at the 2014 NERDS rally.

Even if I'm not riding a motorcycle, I'll do my best to make it with some other form of locomotion.

Fred; yeah, brining or smoking is the way to go. A plus benefit to smoking at this time of year is your beer never gets warm and the smells seem to be even better when the air is cold.

Then again, being a good Scot says cooking inside the house has the benefit of helping to heat the house.

Wishing everyone celebrating the T-day long weekend a safe and happy one!

Our family enjoyed gorgeous (if cold) weather for Thanksgiving, and my wife and stepdaughter once again started the holiday by running the Buffalo YMCA Turkey Trot, with 14,000 other runners.

We enjoyed a warm fire and a huge dinner with family. It started snowing just around dinner time, and continued into the evening and overnight. We awoke this morning to a beautiful new day.

So much to be thankful for, including the fact that I'm not working today!

Ian, Great to hear from you and agree 100 Kunucky %!

So while you were giving Thanks (a bit earlier than us Amerks) I see that you have been "given" some inside scoop that poor ole KJ has been left out on (nutt'n new!).... And yes, I got plenty of kewl spots for us in the 'Daks...

BUT... wtf is this NERDS'14 crap? Are you start'n sumtin? (oh,boy!) I guess I'm blind in bowf ears and def in my one glass eyebawl!

While we weren't as cold as some, the temps did drop below freezing. The smoker did journeyman duty and didn't need refueling once started up and allowed to get to a stable temp. Started the brisket at 7pm and it was ready to put into the heat box about 9. We arrived to the turkey and standard stuff well near completion for a large lunch.

Sounds like everyone here had a great time!

Go back and read post #6. I fry our turkey every year.

I have always fried the turkey in either hog lard or peanut oil but this year I used the Oil-less Turkey Fryer. It's less mess to clean but I find the flavor not as good. The marinade that we use to inject the turkey has a lot to do with the flavor but there is no doubt a fried turkey is juicier and more flavorful. And yes, my favorite is the hog lard.

It was ok...I think they over cooked it. I've heard people rave about them but I've definitely had better. It as sort of dry, which is why I think it was over done.

Oh well, hung out with friends and had a blast. We coulda had McDonald's and it would have been fine!

And now for the best part.

Left over turkey sandwiches!
