So I was sitting here wasting my life participating  on the FJR Forum, when it suddenly occurred to me that this month is the second anniversary of owning my '05 FJR. Yippeekayay!

Then I wondered how many miles I'd put on baby. Now, I'm in the habit of saying casually that I ride about 20K miles a year, which is why I put exactly that number on the StreetMasters application where it asks, Approximately how many miles did you ride last year? But is that right?

The anniversary is actually on April 22, but since I don't think I'll be riding the bike till then, I figured I'd do the calcs. The results surprised me--not the number of miles itself so much as the mathematical elegance of the answer.... :)

Miles on bike when I bought it: 1,700

Miles on bike right now: 41,701

Total miles put on bike: 41,701 - 1,700 = 40,001

Miles per year last two years:
20,000.5

What are the odds????*

*Probably about as good as being killed by a stingray in a boat off Florida.

Pretty freaky, JB. Too bad you used up all those math skills calculating average miles instead of figuring out how game the tables; you could have been rich by now!

Great area you ride in, is the weather good year round? Last time I was there was in the coast guard trng center and I didnt get out much. Found out I could rent a bike the week I shipped back to the east coast.

Anyway, that amount of riding for either commute or pleasure is great.

Jb,

Congrats! It's all that "good raisin'" you received in Del Rio, Texas. :clapping: Glad your enjoying the many miles your putting on your scoot.

Stay safe out there.

Rex

Man I thought I was doing good with almost 7,000 miles on my 07 in 10-1/2 months. You must live on your FJR.
Within the halls of this august forum, wherein reside many many riders with far greater experience and knowledge of riding, it is with humble pleasure that I assert that I ride every single weekday and weekends too--weekdays commuting 60 to 90 miles a day (summer winter rain and shine), and twisties or out-of-town trips on weekends. Since being bitten only 5 years ago by the M.C. bug, I have been completely and overwhelmingly smitten. I long to ride all the time.

You mean you don't write down your bike's mileage the 1st of every month?? You really need to be way more anal! You clearly aren't Swedish.

Got me beat. Only 35,000 in three years, but I've only commuted about 1500 miles per year on average....and not many bike-related vacations since Eve got off the back. Probably 20,000 the first year and 7500 the last two....

Actually, I had a student who was stung by a ray while diving from a boat in FL waters. He didn't die, but his leg sure did swell. As it turns out, he increased his odds of being stung dramatically by teasing the stingrays (grabbing and not letting go). Don't tease the FJR. Hold on, but don't tease.
