So I've managed something quite special at Casa Hudson the past six months: getting my wife to watch motorycle videos. She loved, I mean LOVED Long Way Down (no doubt thanks to Ewan), and also enjoyed Hard Miles 2. Heck, she's even watching Supercross...sometimes...ok, in between reading her Ipad perhaps...but she's not leaving the room.

The week before last, she invites her gym friend and her spouse over for wine. I'm no curmudgeon, but the thought of hanging out and talking "Zumba" is not my glass of bourbon. But turnabout is fair play, so what the heck.

Turns out her Zumba pal is Lynda Lahman, the spouse is Terry, and they live just up the street. We drink wine for a while and talk about the Iron Butt (Terry and Lynda competed), and both of the "Hard Miles" DVD's. A real nice couple, and they both like riding, and the best is that my wife was the one to extend the invite. A great time. How cool is that?

So now my wife wants to watch the original Hard Miles to hear more about their ride, and I borrow a copy from AuburnFJR. We get the kids to bed and sit down to watch it. Man, after 30 minutes, we had to look away. The editing, with cuts and wipes every 3 seconds or so, one talking head after another, it was like motion sickness. We both had headaches, it was that herky-jerky.

It makes me appreciate the great job Dean Tanji did with Hard Miles 2, which was really well edited, and showed lots more about the riders during the event, the challenges, and the sheer task of planning and riding the event. Usualy the sequel lacks the brilliance of the orignal, but in this case, the sequel avoids the pitfalls of the original while still preserving the essential goodness. It's pretty hard to cover an event like the Iron Butt, but Hard Miles 2 totally nailed it. Looking forward to the next iteration.

But at least tonight I got to see Scooter and Warchild in action. So there's that...

Sounds like a good one. My wife used to refer to my "Stupid motorcycle racing." I finally got fed up and made her sit down and watch a race. By the end she was on the edge of her seat screaming at Rossi to "JUST PASS HIM!!!" The local theater had a showing of Faster so I took her for that and she was hooked. Took her to her first races and she got all tongue tied trying to talk to Ben Spies because "God he's hot!" She's watched Long Way Round and the shorter version of Long Way Down and loved both. Heck, I even got all my non motorcycle riding family to watch Long Way Round with me and everyone loved it. I'll have to see if I can find this one you speak of and we can watch it. Thanks for the heads up.

You got me, Fairlaner. Long Way Around she liked, stil waiting to watch LWD.

How's tricks?

Yea, wife didn't like LWD. It was cool and all that he included his wife but it totally spoiled the dynamic of the duo that made LWA so good.

That's cool. You are making progress, now if you can get her to ride more :)

if she had more experience it might have been appropriate. insisting she attend and her being a brand new rider, put her at risk as well as the trip.

Most definitely cool and the coolest couple!

I had a 5 second line in each myself. Drinking a beer after HM and "Never underestimate the value of a fresh pair of socks." in HM2.

And concur on HM2 being a better production. I rode the damn thing myself and knew how it ended... but still found myself sitting on the edge of my seat and heart racing watching the final leg on DVD.
