"The Only Bike Worthy to be in the Octagon"
*YAWN*
This is EXACTLY the sort of laughably arrogant, image based crap that I dislike about Harley and some of their worshipers. Just what is it that makes it the
only one
worthy of being in an elite martial combat arena? Its agility, power, endurance or versatility? Harley? *Snort*
A Harley is what it is -- it's the cool old '56 Ford Pickup I wish I still had in some ways. It IS two wheels, a nice slow cruise with no place in particular to go (I wouldn't ride it to bars), and maybe even a babe magnet. But it isn't anywhere near the kind of performance motorcycle I like to ride 99% of the time.
Instead of being analogous to the trained multiple discipline skills and hyper fitness of MMA fighters, this bit of Harley marketing relies on the brutal image of one fighter bloodying another. There's that Harley "image" **** again. More of the same BS from Harley: co-opting an image to help persuade a potential buyer that he can spend his way into the bad boy "lifestyle", physical toughness and a big ****. Pretty much the opposite of what counts in the MMA ring -- the one with the bad guy image but lesser skills is the guy getting counted or carried out of there.
To each his own, I guess. But it's hard to fault Harley for marketing (joke that it may be) that sure as hell works.
BTW, St. Pierre continues to be a no-hype class act, as well as one of the very best in a MMA ring (hear what he said about being the "interim" champ after kicking Matt Hughes's ass again?).
