I think Mooseonagoose said it best. I just bought a fjr but am look'n for a shovel head too and just sold an e-glide.I can seem to keep any of them more than 4 years , get tierd and want to try something else. Have a buddy that just got f'd on a stratoliner, payed 16,680 someting for a new non-current. My last new bike was a e-glide standard that i payed 15,690 out the door. I have owned goldwings-2, a roadstar(piece of crap), and and 4 hd's in the last 25 years and only the r* left me on the side of the road. I would say only the gold wind and bmw are in the same group with hd baggers for milage. Theres just to many newbe's that buy these thangs and don't know **** about them. How many people even change there oil in there cars much less there bikes And if some dumb ass that rides his hd and doesn't get the time'n chain tabs replace free that is his falt. I had my last gold wing in for the frame to be welded after i had it awhile and that went on for 4 year models and the factory radios suck. The road star had ongoing stator problems and valve tran and tranny problems ,glad thats gone. Hope this ride holds up better . Never had any of mine or anyone i new break down on a hd and rode with some old rides back in florida. One man use to ride his 78 fl towing a buck house camper from naples fl to asheville and back for 5 years with out a break down. Then wanted more power and bought 85 flhtc to ride back in 97.If you have and old hd you can buy every part ever made for the drive tran. I see if these asian bikes do break down your screwd, some parts ain't in country. Maybe this thing will be have as dependable as an old goldwing or hd.. I bet ten years down the road we can't buy any parts for the body and maybe not for the rest neither. Time will tell. If i get ten more years and a couple more bikes to ride i,ll probly retire riden anyhow.

Hey I have an FJR also and it seems they break also, and have many inherent problems like 07 fuel cough ,cough uphill turn it off than restart. how we forget.

Weekendrider, I have not had much ride time on the fjr. Look'n at 4" of snow now with maybe 4 more and salt down so that will take care fo riden for a while. Bought in asheville about 2000' ele. and have road to around 5800 or 6000 feet and doesn't seem to have a problem but time will tell. Took up the slack in the throttle before a left dealer but seemed just as touchy there as it soes at 5800 '+ with lite throttle inputs. Only have my old glide to compare to. My old glide was put'n 118 hp to the ground so I had to have a smooth hand on it.

Seems like pretty harsh talk to me, 'specially when statistically 97-98% of the Harleys ever built are still on the road!
Well at least the other two or three Hardley Drivables got home.

Seriously, the individual models are good for the single mission they were designed for, but I find them boring or a turn-off otherwise.

Thats true, .......the other 2-3% actually made it home!

You have HD envy. They simply are the best bikes in the world and are the only bikes worthy to be in the octagon. Unlike your little sissy Japanese bikes, the Harley's stand tall and proud and make a statement for all to see and hear. American might, no rice required!

I have four children and 8 grandchildren.....I have no need for any kind of envy in that department. :clapping:
