Maybe H-D's primary appeal is its engine and exhaust sound. Saw a show last night where the H-D anechoic sound chamber was shown and explained. They even showed comparison testing where groups of listeners chose the exhaust sounds they liked the best.

Amazing. Design the bike so it sounds just right. Nothing sweeter than sitting at a traffic light and blipping the throttle so you can hear that beautiful exhaust note. Must be fun to draw attention to yourself and your bike.

They're really pushing the technological envelope at that company. Have they changed over to radial tires yet?

Advancing today's motorcycle technology

Yes to radials and even to Harley's own formula? for synthetic oil. Hell they even tried to copyright the Harley sound. But it didn't fly. But Harley is still dinosaur technology when it comes to suspension and cooling.

Ford did that years ago with their mustangs.

Hmmm I work in an anechoic chamber. Wonder if they will let me fire up that F-16 we have swinging 35' in the air tonight?????

Now, that bad boy has a ROAR to it and when you BLIP the throttle she shoots a flame 25' out her butt.

I guess is depends on the ears of the beholder. My wife liked the sound of my FJ-1200 with after market pipes, She thinks Harly are OK but not as good. She did not care for my Venture that much but she loves my FJR with Muzzies.

The "engineers" at The Motor Company© have also spent significant time getting the vibrations "just right" across the product line. Various rubber composites are used by Harley-Davidson© to ensure the rider feels just the right vibration from that monolithic V-Twin at just the right moment in time. They are actually "tuned" to shake the worst at the stoplight. The rubber mounts for the handlebars, seat, engine, floorboards, etc. are all tuned for various frequencies.

For 2009 the tourers get a new frame with 30% fewer welds. Should be significantly stiffer and ride should be improved.

When I first read the story I thought I was reading about a new vibrator being developed by one of the major *** aid companies. Then I realized it was just The Motor Company© doing what they do best.

Yeah, I don't get it either.

The biggest piece of crap gets the most attention. Go figger!?!?

Oh, and the part I like the best is how the market a HD rider's "individuality", yet they are the same. Kind of like lemmings. HD shirt, denim jeans, skull cap (or not), and high heeled boots with requisite chain across the top. Ride in big packs looking the same. Yeah, individuality!

Three HD shops in the Black hills, only one actually sells motor cycles. Both the others are just for trash.

I think it's just a natural progression from those elementary school days when boys took pride in their ability to fart or belch the loudest. Oddly, I wasn't into back then either....

They do best what a lot of American companies do best -- excel at marketing. Even though their product is nowhere near the best their marketing effort supercedes product deficiencies. They are selling lifestyle and community -- the motorcycle is just the starting point.

BD ,,,,,,,, DITTO !!!!!!!!! I really like the chain drive wallets and riding in herds............ <_<

Growing up I could tell what kind of bike it was by the sound of it. Moto Guzzis, Nortons, Triumphs had the best sound. Never liked the blatt of a Harley and the louder the pipes the worse it sounds.

Not much for the inline-4 sound either. With the I-4 I prefer the silent mode of the stock exhaust to the after market exhausts. Just never was a good sound to me. Might as well get a big coffee can to sound like the little Jap cars running around with no muffler.

I guess if every one thought like you all the after market pipe people would be out of business.

And... that would be a bad thing?

BTW, it's illegal to remove or modify your FJR exhaust system (says so right on it).

Maybe we should make a list of the laws we're gonna obey and another list of those we're gonna ignore?

List? We don't need not stinking list! :D

I once had a girlfriend that got pretty pissed when I basically said that I obey some laws and not others. A few months later she got pregnant while I was on deployment. I guess she actually agreed with me.

I'd LOVE to see the cops bust every HD rider that had pipes marked "NOT FOR STREET USE" ..... :angry2:
