Got an appointment for mine to be done next Tuesday morning.

Reminiscint of the TPS recall on my FJR lo these many years ago. That's about how often a dealership gets to touch any of my bikes...

All the best,

Shane

Now I get it !!!! the reason we don't have as many FJR's out there as hardleys is that we are to simple. Yamaha needs to change the bikes name.

"2014 FLHTKSHRINE Electra Glide Ultra Limited Shrine Edition" WTF over.

Dave

Article reported they had multiple related crashes with a couple injuries. Good thing they tend to go so slow...

What escapes me is, in light of the current GM PR nightmare regarding know ignition switch defects, and the lack of action for so long, why HD didn't jump on this. Several news stories I researched show the defect was known Sept. 2013. Granted things take time, but I would think the HD legal team would be more concerned about hurting people and their reputation (and wallet) vs. keeping the investigation under wraps until they were 100% sure there was a problem. Recalls happen everyday, people/engineers screw up, fact of life. Not warning people of an investigation of something as serious as this would surely steer me away from this company. It's not like we're talking about a faulty cup holder here, jeez!

Recalls cost money.

No company will issue a recall unless the pain of not doing so outweighs the projected cost of fixing the bikes. They are not tasked with keeping riders safe, although I accept it is in their best interests to at least try.

It's all done to a price. We should remember, when for example we blame "Chinese rubbish", that most items coming out of those factories are designed and specified by American companies, who also manage quality control. The same workers who make the rubbish also make the iPhone and other high-end items.

It's all about $$$, and your safety is a cost/benefit analysis.

From the article:

"At issue is placement of the bike’s front brake line, which may become pinched between the fuel tank and frame and potentially lock-up the front wheel.....

On October 8, 2013, H-D determined that “six warranty claims/consumer contacts” were potentially linked to the brake line issue. Among those six incidents were “one crash with no injuries.”

Here's my speculation on the crash with no injuries: The line probably only gets bound at full steering lock. So as "Warlock" and his "ol' lady" are leaving the bar, he makes a low speed turn in the parking lot, front locks, down they go. Immediately a full battalion of pirates is streaming out of the bar looking for any signs of a rival "club" that may have sabotaged the bike.

Oh wait--I think that was an episode of "The Devil's Ride".... nevermind....
