***Some NWS language in the video***

This is ******* unreal!

The chase that goes on through countless red lights by BOTH the bike and the cop...

It's a good thing there is a limit on the "chase procedures" where i live...

Never thought the LEO's would run him over.. not saying what biker boy did was right.. but to crash out a rider... doesn't seem right either.

Looked like he hit the rider three times before knocking him off. Running is dumb, but the cop damn near did a PIT move on him at one of those intersections. That could have been fatal.

Remember, the boys in blue get pretty worked up during a chase. Not a good idea to do other than told at that point.

It wasn't the guys fault-notice the bike left the scene once it had dumped the dead weight that was slowing it down. Quick left and it was outta there.

The cops did a nice job. Nobody got hurt and they got their man.

As an 18 year veteran police officer, I can say without question that the video presents some serious issues! For those of you living in the Portland metro area, let me assure you, that pursuit would absolutely be found out of compliance with our policy and would have been terminated.

I am even giving the benefit of the doubt that most of those red lights had decent visibility to the side, but the one with the cross traffic, hello? going through that at 45 mph was pathetic!

The fact that the officer didn't have enough control of his vehicle to prevent contacting the suspect in the first rear end tap should have been enough for the officer to realize he needed to back off. When he damn near took him out sideways was another keen reminder. Finally, the last one did not look intentional either, showing again that the officer was not in control.

The only reason that pursuit didn't end tragically, IMO, is because of pure luck.

I will be forwarding this to our training division as yet another example of how NOT to do police work.

Thanks for posting that! :)

Thank You! :good:

So, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that got the willies seeing that. I know that the in car camera doesn't catch all of the action, but it did seem like the cop had his fangs through the floorboards on that chase.

Yep, that's pretty crazy. Did anyone notice after he struck the bike it continued on across the road up on two wheels? Glad no one hit it head on.

There was way too many things that could/should have happend in this chase... Good thing no innocent people got hurt.

Running from the cops is just dumb. You can't outrun the radio.

Surely that Harley should have been able to run away from that car better then that! He must have had gold bars in the rear cases.

That officer was absolutely taking way to much risk in that chase. I hope he had to direct traffice for a month because of that stupidity!

Glad my "Evading Police" charge didn't end that way. Oh yeah, that's cause I was standing still at a stoplight when the cop got out of his car. Then his car rolled away, and I said hey, your car is rolling away. Then he parked it. Then he came back and tackled me off the bike??? I didn't even know he clocked me about 4 miles back doing 100 (by the way it was back country road). He was never in close enough for me to see him or hear sirens...

Yeah that one got dropped in court, but it sucked to go to jail, and try explaining that one on at a job interview.

Was fatal a few years ago in San Jose CA. That's how they ended the chase, ramming the bike and killing the rider.

I'm on the fence. On the one hand, running from the cops is a crime, and innocent people don't run. There are cases where the police justifiably stop a vehicle by bumping or ramming it. However, I doubt the guy on the bike was a mass murderer or anything, so it was probably overkill. But when do you let a criminal get away? What's the line? It's frustrating. Personally, car, bike or otherwise, I have no sympathy of you run. It's like a slap in the **** of the law.

That's one dumb-lucky biker!

I have zero tolerance for evaders. What, let them get away? To endanger the public some other day? Hell no! Sure, I'd prefer LEO's to use some engine-disabling device (in the works) but until then, pursue!

All the reasons for early terminiation aside, it seems the cops made it clear their intentions several times before they finally tapped him down. He got at least 2 love taps and an attempt at a forced spin out before the final sling shot. He had plenty of time to avoid the final outcome. Running and baricading himself in a back yard while starting to draw down on the cop was an interesting attempt at de-escellation.

One observation: Notice how the cruiser rider only tried to evade in a straight line? :)
