I saw a friend and his wife yesterday,, and she was riding a Harley V-Rod....

Damn, that was a pretty bike !!!!

The paint was a Very Nice orange metal flake ,,,, black wrinkle painted motor , S&S or screamin turkey or something engine ,,,,,, yards of chrome ,,, spot less...

His wife did take some offense when I said ,,, "That's a Really Pretty Bike , for a Harley".. ( and I had to go wash my mouth out with soap after I said it..)

One of the prettiest bikes I've seen on the road,,,, (have to go wash my mouth out with soap again)

I wouldn't worry about it. My mother went through menopause, for over thrity years.

One of the cable networks had a program on H-D and they used the V-Rod as an example as they walked through the manufacturing process.

One of the things that really struck me was that H-D is like the Italians, in that Function follows Form.

Willie G declares what it should look like, and then the shade tree mechanics (and more recently shade tree mechanics with degrees) try to figure out how to make it.

It was pretty interesting.

From what I can tell listening to my friends who ride H-D, the current crop seem to have a pretty good reliability record, and folks seem to be very happy with them.

Not for me yet. I can't get that bad taste out of my mouth from the 65-85 era. If you never lusted after an H-D as a young person, its hard to start lusting after them as an older person.

The V-Rod is a nice looking bike. Not sure if this is indicative of Harleys or an isolated issue but, about 8 mos ago I got together with a bunch of people from work on a Saturday to ride up into the local mountains. I was right behind a woman riding a new V-Rod. After 3 hours or so of riding, we stopped for lunch. I had an '05 FJR at the time. When I got off my bike, I noticed that the front of my bike, just below the windshield (fender and fairing) was covered with black specks of something. I rubbed it and discovered it was oil. I know that Harley's do burn oil but I was surprised that it's enough to spray out the back.

That's why they love those monster windshields. ;)

I was at Americade a couple of weeks ago and met up with a few guys that ride Harleys. They said they were going to demo V-rods and asked me to join them. After we got back they all asked what I thought of the power as they were obviously impressed. I told them honestly that this was the bare minimum power every Harley should have and was surprised at the lack of low end torque for a big V-twin. It pulled decently from 6 to 9k though. One actually asked did the FJR make more power.

A lot of these Harley guys really don't what else is out there. Oh well, they say ignorance is bliss.

I agree, they seem to have blinders on. I personally dont like Harley but love the look of the Vrod. I seriously considered it when buying my fjr. I very happy that I got the feejer but I was at least open to the idea of looking at the Harley. I must say though, the few Harley guys who have come up and asked about my Feejer at least knew what it was. I get the "Nice BMW" comment regularly but not from the Harley crowd.

I took a long look at the V-Rod when it came out. I read something about Porsche doing the engineering on it. I like the looks of the bike. But no longer seriously interested.

And you're right about the lack of power in a Harley big twin. I paid $18,000 for the Fatboy and it wouldn't pull much above 85 mph. It was a real looker, though.
