Just for fun. :D

Comparing the R1 to the Hayabusy. I love both bikes, but I've never ridden either of them. I was just wondering what some of the main differences are, from what I understand the Hayabusy is a much faster bike.

Has anyone ever compared these 2 bikes, If I ever get another bike it's gonna be a pure sport bike, so what one would ya'll buy?........ :D

Here's my take, fwiw: the model designation for the Hayabusa is GSX1300R; the model designation for the Katana 750 is GSX750 -- neither of these are among Suzuki's pure sport bikes. Those are GSXR750, GSXR1000, etc. It's kind of a grey area -- Hayabusas have been raced (as well as Katanas) but not with nearly the frequency nor successes of the GSXR pure sport bikes. No problem with the R1 -- definitely a pure sport bike.

Isn't the reason for that because the various sanctioning bodies of motorcycle racing limit engine size to 1 liter (1000cc) ?

Can't help you with the question at hand though, have not owned either myself....

One humorous note, however: about a year ago, was showing the wife a Bandit 1200 at the local Suzuki dealership...was considering getting one & outfitting it for sport-touring (before I saw my first FJR in person)...salesman walks over, I tell him what I was considering on doing with the Bandit. He says..."Oh, if you want to do sport-touring, Suzuki does make a sport-touring bike..the Hayabusa" :haha: Yeah, and I might drive a Ferrari Testarossa to pickup my kid from soccer practice too!

And now, back to the original thread......

First off, the Suzuki is more in the sports touring class. I have a buddy of mine who has a Busa, and I an R1. As far as the torque goes, yes the Suzuki wins here, but that's about it. It's a pig as far as weight goes. Very heavy in the corners compared to the R1. Topend is about the same. Depending who gets the jump (better rider), depends who will win a straight line race (he had to put a pipe and PC with custom map to beat me! lol). Twisties, R1 hands down! It's not a bad bike, just two very different bikes!

Yes, the reason they don't race them other than Drag racing is because of cc size (and weight) compared to the GSXR 1000. SuperStock and Superbike only allow up to 1000cc. I've seen a few in roadracing GTO classes where anything goes, but that's it. Any of the Liter bikes today can hang with the Busa though, that's why they are redesigning it.

I absolutely love the Busa. I think owning a Busa and a FJR would be a little redundant (similar weight class/long wheel base etc.). I would actually consider the Busa as a serious replacement for the FJR. If Suzuki would put ABS on it next year as an option, I would consider it for my next sport tourer…but odds of that happening are slim. If you are looking for a bike to contrast the FJR…then no doubt go with a liter bike…light, agile & high on the fun-factor-scale. So to answer your question…which one would I buy? Both! LOL. Ultimately, I would love to have a Busa w/ABS as my sport tourer and the new ‘05 GSXR-1000 as my fun bike. Any body got some extra change? LOL. ‘06 could be an interesting year for the GT/ST bikes…let’s hope we get some new blood out there. :D

Damn I almost went and bought one today and put it on my Credit Card......lmao

Boy would I be in trouble.........hahaha :D Look hunny it followed me home, can we keep it? huh, can we huh? :D

I want a R1, I love the Red and black! OMG I'm jones'in B)

aw man...

that gives me a chubby.

I'll have to take a zero.

Are the turn signals incorportated into the taillight?

FJR and Hayabusa - redundant? Or a replacement for a FJR?! No way! I own both (both '05's). The Busa weighes less and feels much less bulky. The FJR feels like a battle-tank in comparison, especially with the hard bags snapped on, and its up-right riding position. Riding my Busa feels like I'm piloting a fighter jet (with near unlimited acceleration). Silky smooth transmission too (no "clunk" shifting like the FJR). Love my Busa!

The FJR provides a much more comfortable almost "Wing-like" feel. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them both and the FJR is great, but it sure ain't no Busa!

The R1 looks awesome! I've never road one, and not sure I'd want to plant my a## on it for any long distances - but it looks great! Passenger seat sits pretty darn high though doesn't it? At least the passenger can see waaaay over the traffic up ahead! :D

Yeah, it's got the CustomLED integrated tail light/turn signals and the front signals moved to the running lights in the headlights, plus a custom flasher to slow things down.

Hey Butch,

Uncaged is asking for an opinion and from his question it appears he is looking to add another “pure” sport bike. The Busa is not a pure sport bike. It is a GT bike with excellent touring abilities. I love the Busa, but as a better CONTRAST a liter bike with the FJR as a stable mate would make a better combo (IMHO). Uncaged will easily note the difference after riding a liter and a heavier GT bike.

The reason I feel the Busa would be a somewhat better sport tourer plate-form than the FJR…is that I don’t like the high handle bars, along with the feeling of sitting ON the bike. I would much rather be sitting IN the bike like the Busa. The only problem is…the Busa lacks the excellent amenities the FJR has and is why the FJR is the better ST. If the Busa at least had ABS (one of my personal ST requirements) all I would do is add a Corbin seat/Beetle Bags and it would be the ultimate ST *for me*. I have very long arms. Now if we could just get the Busa and the FJR to mate. LOL. Anyway, that is just my opinion and with that being said…buy whatever your heart desires. We all have our individual tastes regarding ergonomics etc… Ride on!

Here is a comparison of the Busa and the FJR from big guy:

The busa is by far the best machine out there as far as looks, Power... But the Busa is a bit cramped for me. 6'1", 340#'s. If i could get the pegs lower, Bars higher, I would have one. I know that you can get this stuff, But in stock form, I cant ride it long.

The FJR is the best bike i have ridden that gives me comfort, power, and decent handling. I am not a knee dragger, But i get down really good on it! I could ride the FJR all day long and not have the pains i would have from the Busa.

In a perfect world, I would have BOTH in my stable! My income wont allow that right now, But someday, I WILL have a Busa to "play" with.

Adam

another question for our sportbike brethren:....How does the Ninja ZX12R compare to the 'Busa? I see Busa's around in my area, but rarely a ZX12R....

FJRON - Yep, I agree with ya. The Busa is not a pure sport bike. Like you, I enjoy sitting "in", not on, the Busa. And I think a lot of the Busa bulk is necessary to maintain stability at higher speeds. It's definitely a stable ride.

I've never ridden a 1K sport bike, but I've sat on several. My first thought was, "uncomfortable but probably a lot of fun."

I like exploring different types of machines. Who knows, I may end up adding a R1 or GSX1000R to the stable someday. All these bikes are fantastic in their own way. I took my Busa and FJR both for a ride this afternoon. Enjoyed them both! :)

I liked my Busa a LOT, and it sure did Sport tour well after some mods...
