Just so y'all know that next year feb. 17 all tv transmissions will be in HD format. You can get coupons sent to you in the mail when the converters come out in stores. The converters will allow old/analog tv's to recieve the HD signal.

here is the website to register for the 40 buck coupons(you can get two of them for each household). They'll be sent out once the converters hit the stores.

You only need a box if you receive your signal through"Rabbit Ears". If you are a part of a major cable or satellite system, they will convert the signal for you.

It is nice of Odot to post the link to the box coupon.....make sure you need it first.

Contact your providers and ask questions.

You can still get two coupons whether or not you have hd tvs. Two coupons....eighty bucks....the converters are supposed to be within 30 to 70 bucks....worth it just to get the coupons whether you use them or not. I don't have an HD tv and probably will not get one.....plus, I use the rabbit ears to watch tv.

Everything out there still has the analog channels. If you can tune VHF and UHF, it has analog.

If you can ONLY tune VHF and UHF (no HD tuner, no component, DVI, or HDMI inputs) then it's an analog-only set.

If it says HD somewhere on the set, then it has digital capability. Maybe not built-in, but it has inputs that accept digital signals. My own set is one such: 2 Component inputs (in addition to 3 analog inputs and 2 analog tuners) but no built-in HD tuner.

The FCC instituted a rolling schedule for when TV's would require digital tuners, based on size. The larger models started first (about three years ago), and all sizes are now required to have them as of about 6-12 months ago (I forget the exact schedule). So, if you have bought a TV in the last 3 years, it most likely has a digital tuner.

Just keep in mind that just because everything is going digital, that not everything is going HiDef. Here in Vegas, a lot of the local programming is Standard Def, with only the national network feeds being HD. If you can use an antennna to receive your local stations, I recommend it; cable operators may add more compression, and not all local channels are available in HD from satellite, plus all it costs is the price of the antenna.

Next years deadline is not for HD (high definition), it is mearly for the conversion to a digital signal, from analog. HD is in digital but digital doesn't mean high definition.

those coupons are the most idiotic thing since thinking that sending everyone a check would buy some votes (and send us deeper in dept in the hopes that it might postpone a recession caused by increasing dept).

if people need the box, they'll get it without the gov't spending tax $ to help people pay for it.

if people can't afford $40 for tee vee then they have bigger problems. perhaps less time watching the tee vee would be good for them. certainly $40 could be spent better elsewhere in their lives (shoes, food, etc.).

why kid around? simply print more money and give everyone a car, an FJR, a house, a tee vee, and anything else they think they want. what the hell it's only tax money and national debt.

Q pon is the correct version for the upper crust high falutin' types. Us lower class folks use the co pon pronunciation :p

Just in case somebody fails to notice-- they expire 90 days after they are mailed.
