I'm planning trip to visit a friend in Albany, NY this summer from my home in VA. Would appreciate any tips on good motorcycle roads up there. Lake George, Catskills, Adirondacks??? Have about 4 days to explore once I'm there before having to head home. Thanks.

Anywhere around there you can't go wrong....Follow roads up the western side of Lake Champlain, take a nice ferry ride across the Lake into Burlington VT (about an hour as I recall) for the night then head over to the White Mountains of New Hampshire....Kancamangus Pass, Crawford Notch etc... All of VT RT100 is good. Make a stop at Fort Ticonderoga in NY, really interesting place in a gorgeous area. Have a great trip.

Last fall I took a trip and went From IL to western NY, then western NY to Lake Placid, NY. From Lake Placid over the top of Lake Champlain on US 2 through Vermont to the Vermont/NH border, ...

Having done that, I would get recommendations from the local riders (you know who you are) for good routes.

I enjoyed the ride from Spectacular, NY to Lake Placid, I enjoyed Northern Vermont and New Hampshire the best. Too many lines of cars in the middle to southern part of VT. I definitely second Crawford Notch and have also heard great things about the Kancamangus Hwy in NH.

We live just outside of Albany. We can be tour guides. When the time gets closer, let us know and maybe we can go for a ride.

Catskills are great. Check out Rt 30 and 10. Woodstock is a cool little town Rt212.

Then Adirondacks - you could actually come up route 30 from the Catskills and head into Speculator. Other good Routes are 73 and 86 and Lake Placid area. Also, there's Vermont Route 100 is pretty good. Route 17 by Mad River Glen is a hoot too! As mentioned earlier, New Hamphire is fun and also nearby.
