Just Krusen I have it plugged into a powerlet outlet which has a 15 amp fuse. Was thinking about installing the two that mount by the seat lock. It's either that or wiring directly to the battery.
I run my gear through powerlet outlets also. I use the ones by the seat lock for my wifes gear and are wires hot so that my battery tender can be plugging in when not riding. Mine gear has a plug up front. I also have a voltmeter to keep an eye on the charging system. That is very important if both of you are running heated gear at the same time.

 
Just Krusen-

Where is your wife's heat troller located? I'm looking for a spot for my wife. Didn't know if it would be best to mount it somewhere or let her attach it to herself somehow.

Wife and I both have heated gear. I have the First Gear (Warm'nSafe) stuff, but they are pretty much all the same. We run just the 90W liners and 2 pair of gloves, no pants or socks. When it gets really cold she just doesn't want to be on the bike anyway, and I don't mind being solo.

I ran the pigtails out from under the seat and we wear the dual heat-trollers, which I fitted into some cell phone cases I found that were the right size, clipped onto the belt of our jackets. The pigtail has a slip fit co-axial power connector, so if you just walk away from the bike with the cord still attached it disconnects itself no problem.

With the heat trollers attached to your jackets, are you able to actually see the knobs? Seams like with a helmet on it would be hard to get a good view of heat troller attached to you.

I was considering that spot, only on the right bag. Looked like it would be easy for her to access and easy to view.

Do you leave it on the bike when you are away or do you remove it every time? Would be easy for a thief to get.

 
FWIW, I have the remote Troller also and like it a lot but I'm always afraid of it flying off somewhere. I use the attached lanyard along with the case clip just for extra security.,

And just to add my .02¢ (or guess it's .04¢ now), I wouldn't worry about viewing it. As long as it's within reach, even in her pocket, it'll be easy to adjust.

Yes, I can still peek down at it with the helmet on. But we also have modular helmets so we can "flip our lids" when we want to look at it.

That said, I can reach down with my left hand while riding and adjust the knobs up or down a little without even looking at the controller. Because I leave the controller in the case, and have put tags on the output cables so I always hook them up the same (Gold to gloves, Red to liner) I know which knob does which.

 
Pigtail sticking up between front and rear seats. Wireless controller on front brake master cylinder lid, secured with Velcro. Lanyard wrapped around handlebar for extra peace of mind plus a wire tie around it for extra security. Easy to reach and in line of sight.

 
This ^^^ If I had to buy a replacement Heattroller tomorrow I would definitely get the wireless remote control one. Way more convenient to have just one power wire handing from your liner to the power pigtail and have the remote up in your line of sight somewhere.

 
Another good reason to go with the wireless remote like this, owning multiple bikes. This set up allows me to easily move it between motorcycles only requiring a pigtail installation on each bike.

I've been leaving them on the bikes during the cold season since 1997. Never had a problem. If someone steals it some day I'll just get another wireless controller like I use up front. Those are pretty sweet.

 
FWIW, I've never used heated socks or pant liners nor found them needed down into the low 20's. Keep your core toasty with the jacket and hands warm with grips/hippo hands or heated gloves and being cold isn't a problem.
Save your extra watts for lights and other goodies you didn't know you needed!

Same here. I've run my ZRX (very little wind protection) into the teens with just the jacket liner and gloves. I wore a pair of insulated First Gear pants and thick socks in my regular riding boots. My legs and feet got chilly, but I wasn't that uncomfortable.

FWIW, a friend does have the electric socks with his, and he says they're very uncomfortable for walking. That's second-hand info and maybe worth what it cost, but the guy's an old hand at riding and usually has good info.

That's definitely something to consider but I'm sure that's very subjective. My wife (who the heated socks would be for) could probably walk around with rocks in her shoes and be ok with it. Myself on the other hand, if I feel a seam in the sock, it drives me nuts. Usually on those cold days we aren't doing much walking. Maybe from the bike into a restaurant. The rest of the time we are putting miles on it.

 
Also picked up the old gerbings jacket liner and EX gloves with just the corded dual temp controller. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet. Was a nice time to buy though with all the Gyde stuff being rolled out they were selling the old gerbings for cheap. I'm trying the layered thing where you have the outer non insulated jacket, heated liner and a base layer. Wanted to buy the Rukka outlast base layer shirt but Revzilla has been out of stock for awhile. I think for pants could get buy with some insulated ones like the firstgear HT overpants. Have an outlet jack up on the fairling. Looking forward to giving it all a try. With just the gloves and jacket I put in a 10amp fuse I think. Power draw shouldn't be too bad. Of course thats only for 1 person.

When you are layering up, you want to do it this way:

Outer non-insulated jacket - fluffy insulation layer - heater liner - relatively thin long sleeve base layer.

The idea here is to trap the liner's heat near your body. And the more that the fluffy insulation layer presses the heated layer against you the better it will work, and the lower you'll be able to set your 'troller.

This make sense. I use a FG Kilamanjaro with the liner, my heated liner, and then usually a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt. I think that this way the heated liner is not trying to overcome the insulation of any additional layers, and the jacket liner can actually trap the heat inside.

 
When it's cold, I wear my tourmaster 3 something, or other jacket with a Gerbing's liner and I wear a long sleeve microfiber t-shirt under that. I also wear the long sleeve t-shirt in the summer, under a mesh jacket.

The heated liner always rides with me, winter, or summer.

I'm old, when it drops below 57 degrees, I turn my heated grips on, when it's too cold for that, I add the heated gloves.
