Part numbers for Gen 2 and Gen 3 are very similar and the technology is quite simple. Have a pair of Gen 2 (2012). Wonder if they can be interchanged?
I still haven’t gotten around to finding a wiring diagram &/or service manual here yet, I’m interested but let me see what info I can find. PM me price?

Are you sure they don't work? They are adjustable in the menu.
Ya, they were set at the factory 10,5,2 and I did try riding it around for a good half hour at decent RPM. I read some threads about them being wired in series, right side is typical failure for wire moving with throttle application, and should read at 1.2-1.7ohm I believe. Just haven’t gotten around to testing, rather swap them for a known good pair, then repair the current ones I have if possible for a back up set.

From what I’m seeing Gen 2 is power modulated via a separate controller, Gen 3 is ground modulated via ECU, it shouldn’t matter a great deal as long as the resistance is similar. If you could PM me pictures of the wires and connectors coming from them with the price that’d be great. Thanks

Update, pulled the front apart, and tested the resistance. Black plug (assuming that’s left grip) tested perfect, 1.3 ohm. Grey plug (assuming that’s throttle grip) is an open circuit. Looks like my throttle grip is out, when I receive the replacement I’ll swap them out and verify they work then repair the throttle side. Thanks to @TooManyBikes for the help with the grips!

Verified the resistance when I received the grips from @TooManyBikes, and finally got a chance to install today. He graciously sent the throttle side still installed on the throttle tube, which made this about an hour long job start to finish and the grips start heating up even on idle. Thanks again for the assistance everyone.

Sidenote, it is confirmed Gen II heaters will work with Gen IIII bikes, they are controlled differently from my understanding but because the resistance is the same and series wiring remains, all is well.

Glad they worked out fine. Am not in the M/C parts business, and always glad to hear that things bought from my parts shelf make the buyer happy. (It is a shame your grips will only now be warm, as the weather is getting hot.)

We’re coming up to monsoons where I live so they’ll get plenty use still luckily. I planned on doing it as the weather cooled down and I needed them, but with monsoons we’ll still get low 40s mornings especially as I get higher in elevation on the way to work.
