I'm thinking about heated grips for the FJR.

The question is has anyone used the heating elements in conjuction with Gel grips?

The thought process goes like this, gel pads and gel inserts in seats tend to warm up and retain heat, if I insert heating elements under gel grips wouldn't they tend to capture the heat, and spred it through out the grip, heating the grips evenly, and maby retain the heat longer??

airboss,

I have heating elements installed under gel grips on the FJR, and have had heated grips on other bikes in the past with foam grips on one and very hard rubber grips on another.

They're about the same as the others, as far as I can tell.

I doubt the "gel" in a gel grip is a true liquid that can flow through the grip like a gel pad in a seat - I think it is held pretty tightly in a foam suspension. What is probably does do is give the grip more thermal mass so it would be slower to warm up and slower to cool down. This might be an advantage.
