Helmet face shield cleaning

I use the Wee Willey Kit from Rider wearhouse . It costs 17 $ and comes in a handy zip pouch. It includes an integrated spray bottle/squeegee and a sponge and polishing cloth , it works great. According to the advertisement it " will not scratch hardened shields".

They also sell refills and the cleaning cloth seperatly.

I gave up on tinted shields...scratch to easily and it always seemed like I was caught in the dark w/ no clear shield w/ me.

I apply an anti-fog spray called Zooke Zone-One (I buy it at motorcycle shows every year). Besides stopping fog ups it causes bugs to not stick on the sheild and it makes it much easier to clean with a soft cloth. Works great on glaases as well.

Both. It makes no difference.

A bit of a hijack, do you ever store your shield in the sidecase? I have stored mine in the nylon bag that came with it in the sidecase. Trying to figure out what I did wrong to destroy mine so quickly. I will confess to wiping it off once with a dry cloth, which the salesperson told me was a no-no.

I carry a soft wash cloth soaked in water in a ziplock bag stored in the glove box. It's warm in there, so when I stop and clean the shield, warm water works best on bugs. Follow with the small spray bottle of lens cleaner, and then with a dry microfiber towel. Shields have been lasting about 3-4 years of riding, both clear and tinted. Usually I scuff them up carrying them around rather than damaging them by cleaning.

If it is real bad mine goes in the kitchen sing with a squirt of diswashing liquid. Then a shot of plexus to polish it.

I use the wet compress method, especially when on the road. Wet a service station paper towel with either water or gook from the do it yourself bucket, place wet towel on visor, let it sit while I gas up. Throw the paper towel away, use soft cloth I carry in the tank bag to clean / dry. Same routine for the windshield. I also carry a small amount of plastic polish, just in case.

Wet towel to soften the splooge, then water rinse with supersoft rag. Real tough bugs get spit.

At home, I just use water and paper towels.

For on the road, I carry some bush and laumb (sp?) lens wipes. They are little pre-mostened-rib-hand-wipe-thingies, but for lenses. They come in a box of 20 or so, and were found at the grocery store. I toss several in my tank back as needed, and always have a clean, moist, lens safe option while riding.

Also good for getting accidental spills of who-knows-what off the tank/plastic.

Sprayaway Glass Cleaner for entire helmet and windshield - when at home that is.

On the road, water for bugs then Yamaha Windshield cleaner. Comes in plastic squeeze bottle. Good stuff!

I use the same method for tinted and clear. But I have an iridium shield, and that got destroyed by using almost anything on it. And it was a $100 shield!

My wife is an optometrist, so I have a steady supply of 2 ounce squirt bottles of 'lens cleaner' that "will not cloud plastics" (as in glasses lens, not eyeball lens). I carry it in my tank bag, along with a little micro fiber cloth. I'm planning on supplying some to any door prize events I happen to attend this year.

+1 ... always have a bottle of lens cleaner in my tank bag.

Probably the best use I've heard of yet for that otherwise useless little hole.

If you go to the Optometrist ask them for a bottle of the Lens Cleaner specifically for Anti-Reflective coated lenses. It will not harm your shield. We give them away to our patients or sell them for $1 if you aren't.
