I have been experimenting by buying helmets this summer. I was looking for quiet, comfort, features and good aerodynamic properties.

When you see pics of me riding, you will see me in a Schuberth System helmet, or a Scorpion EVO 700. My wife wears an HJC flip front that used to be mine (we share sizes). She likes the flip front and so do I. I really like the flip down tinted shield in the Schuberth. So many times that has made my ride comfortable without having to stop to mess with shades...but:

The Scorpion is without a doubt a winner in comfort, light weight, ventilation, buffeting reducer and quiet. In fact, in all these areas, the other helmets don't even come close. I am amazed how little the buffeting affects me now with this helmet...much, much better than the other two. So, my least expensive helmet has become my favorite helmet even though it doesn't have the flip front, and it doesn't have the built in sun visor like the schuberth does.

It fairly well amazes me that the least expensive is the helmet that obviously has more creature comfort built in.

Another note: Schuberth helmets are a PITA to set up with headset kits.

Scorpion wins this battle in my eyes...you could say that the flip fronts aren't really a fair comparison. Of course they are heavier. Well, going into it I thought the Scorpion was going to be the loser because it didn't have the flip front. Also, the flip front doesn't explain away the aerodynamics and ventilation comparisons.

I am willing to go through the PITA with my glasses to have the added comfort of the Scorpion. If you are shopping for a helmet consider the Scorpion 700 series.

Would I buy the Schuberth again? Not for the money they ask (I got mine on sale)

Would I buy the HJC again ? Yes.

Scorpion 700? This will be my primary helmet.

Motorcyclist had a big, long Helmet crash test comparo in one of their recent issues. They tested the Scorpion series helmets as well and both received excellent ratings in both the crash ratings and the comfort. If I was in the market for a new helmet I would probably go for a Scorpion myself. A work collegue of mine has the EVO 700 and he is happy as a pig in the mud. The best thing, it's about half of what I paid for my Shoei.

I too purchased the Scorpion. I ran around to 6 different dealers trying on helmets of all makes. It came down to a Scorpion vs. Arai. I could have purchased three Scorps for the price of the Arai. I agree with Orangevale, comfort is great and you can't beat the price. Plus the antifog shield that comes with it works excellent. I purchased a tinted mirrored shield and it does fog on cold mornings.

My riding buddy was talking to a helmet rep. Supposedly the rumor is that you will see a big jump in price of the Scorpion helmets at the end of this year. Again, rumor has it that Scorpions are going to be priced up with Shoeis. Guess they are confident that they are a contender in the market.

I got the Scorpion 400 series because it transmitted fewer Gs than the 700 in Motorcyclist's testing. Probably not quite as nice but still pretty good and for $130, who can complain? I wouldn't be suprised to see their price go up; they've got to cover the cost of all the advertising they've been doing.
