HELP !!

I'm denuding Wonky - and I've been at it all morning - (06)

The only thing I can't find are the two plastic bands - I can't remove the cowling !!

They are identified in the shop manual on page 4-2 as step "#15, Plastic Bands, Qty 2, Disconnect"

I can find what looks like the end of a large black ty-wrap sticking out - but there's no way I can get to it to release it -

Does anyone out there have experience in removing this? Is it the same as earlier models? Do I need my sawzall?

:help: :help: :help:

EDIT ADD PICS: (Thanks, TWN!)

Just meditate for a while Mahat, Wisdom will come to you.

Kaitsdad: I dont know if the 06 is the same, but the 05's have several hidden allen head bolts underneath the headlight in the front side of the fairing. If you reach in with a long allen head ball driver from under the front of the fairing below the headlights and feel around gently you might be able to find them. If the rear section of the side panels are loose, you might be able to pry them open enough to peek in and see them. Be very gentle...

Looks like the same Moron designed the 06 fairing.

Good Luck....

OOOmmmmm............

They're not allen head. It seems that they are now phillips head screws - and there are two, within 1/8" of the back of the frigging headlight assembly. So - I'm now off on a mission for a new TOOL, specifically, a 90 degree ratcheting phillips head driver, small enough so that I can shove it up the designers'..... whatever.

Gotta go -- thanks for the tip, BF !

"And so, the continuing adventures of Noobie boy and Wonky in Farkle Land continue......." :dribble:

Stay tuned.

That little zip tie type band? You can pry the tang with your fingernail and pull the band free. These are designed to be reusable.

Don't know about the '06, but on earlier bikes it's easier to remove the headlight and front fairing as a unit, and then seperate the two.

That black ziptie type thing on my bike only holes wires, not any of the pastic.

Damn good idea, Slappy ! Thanks !!

I had to pull off at noon to go visit my son at college - just got back about 7:30 PM. Probably a good thing - I was getting p.o.'d, and I tend to do crazy things at that point.

Scored the tool at Sears - so tomorrow first thing, I'll head for the garage to finish the strip. And then the fun begins.

Hope I don't have any parts left over when this is done ......

Just got it and you are already tearing it apart....tsk, tsk. What you should have done is ordered two of them...one to ride....another to farklize.
