Crap! I tore my FJR down Saturday night to check valve clearances...all ok. Now going back together with it and can't remember exactly where this stupid part came out of;

I know it came outta here;

But I'll be damned if I can remember exactly what it fit between and around. It's a big rubber insulator sheet to shield heat I'm sure. Can anybody give me some guidance here? I remember it was a bit of a wrestling match to get it out, but now 48 hours later, I just can't remember how/where (too much beer at the time I guess). Anybody?? I sure would like to get this back together tonight.

TIA,

Top of radiator back, IIRC. The wide part with the holes fits on top, the holes around the top mounts, then it just lays back, as a water shield for all the wiring etc at the top of the engine.

What radman said. The end with holes goes around the two shiny tubes on top pf the engine. The square tab goes towards the front of the frame and just tucks in under, covering all of the wiring. In your picture, it is upside down. Flip the top pic 180 dg. and you will have it!

Well, while that certainly would make good sense, I found a pic of it in the parts fiche on bikebandit here, which shows the wide end towards the back of the motor. Based on that, and the way it had "formed" itself (from heat and age), I installed it like this;

wrapping down over the back edge of the valve cover. It seems to fall into place well there, but I'm not totally convinced that's right. Anybody got their tank off by any chance??

Tried that, but the two holes in the rubber sheet are much wider apart than the two water pipes that come out of the top of the head.

That's right, like I said, except the two holes go around the air induction plumbing (like the last pic posted).

When I got mine back from the tick fix it wasn't there. I didn't know it until way later and decided not to worry about it. :)

Mines been gone for so long, can't even remember where I put it. I do know I gained 7 mph on top with it gone...... ;)

.........course, that's after you put a high lift cam, high compression pistons, new pipes on the scoot and remapped the onboard computer, right? :rolleyes:
