Is there someone in the Phoenix area that has experience installing the Audiovox CC that I could recruit to help me install one? I have heard too many good things about having cruise control so I am going to purchase one if I can find some help installing it. Beer, pizza, strippers, and/or anything else I can think of to bribe someone with will be considered.

Thanks

Burk

Well, certain Phoenix area people actually rode to Missouri to have theirs installed.

Hey there,

I'm planning on taking some vacation in March, starting about the 13th, and will be in Ajo for a week. That's about 100 miles from Phoenix, south and west. I may or may not be independently mobile while there, but we do have a place to work there, just in case.

If you're able to wait that long, I'd be willing to pitch in some help. We can consult on what tools/equipment need to be available if we need to. It's not the hardest job to do, just needs to be done right the first time, and there are a few tricky steps. BTW, I've done at least 4 installs, 3 FJR, 1 KLR.

You didn't mention the year of your bike, but hopefully it's a gen 1 style. I wouldn't claim experience on this install on a gen 2.

Shane

Thanks for all the input and advise especially from Smitty. After reading all the posts on the problems with the AVCC on gen II bikes I have decided to wait until the problem is solved or I can afford the McCruise.

The people on this forum are a wealth of information and I am proud to be associated with such a great group.

Thanks.

The only problems I'm aware of on the Gen II bikes has been on the AE. There are hundreds, if not thousands of FJR's on the road with the CCS100 working just fine. The smart guy would take Shane up on his offer, as he and I have collaborated on several installs, the last one was on a Gen II and the owner loves it. Your call.

Ya know, I find it's very interesting -

I keep reading posts on the forum such as "all the problems" or "40% failure rate" or , or, or,

And yet I've now installed 2 06-A's, 1-06 AE, and 'supervised' two 2005's, one abs, one non-abs -

I've done three under the right side muffler bracket (the GenII bikes,) 1 under the seat, and 1 on the non-abs behind the ride side cover. Three with the factory pad using the Skyway pad mount, the other two via a highly modified toggle switch that installs in the left handlebar cluster -

I've installed on my bike, then removed it, made some changes, installed it again, then did it a THIRD time to get the wiring just the way I like it - and it works just fine.

All of them have modified wiring harnesses - I actually spend a couple of hours taking that huge jumble of wires and cutting, trimming, shrink wrapping, etc., in order to reduce it down to a clean, neat, installation. I modify the connectors to either direct solder, or Molex for disconnection. I have used some of the mod-taps, but I don't like them, and have a standing offer out to those I've installed to re-do the connections.

Basically, these installs are no where near what you would call stock - they've been walked all over the place ..

And none of them has any problem that I know of.

I'd like to know where all the FACTUAL STATISTICS are that show such a high incidence of failure - or perhaps we have a case of 'creative statistics'? I'm thinking that there's maybe 10 or 12 bikes out there from hundreds of installs - or if you count other manufacturers, THOUSANDS of installations.

What's the saying? "97% percent of all statistics are made up" ??

I'd be happy to set up a poll next week, once I'm back from my little ride to Mexican Hat, Utah this weekend. - and perhaps we can really get an understanding of just how problematic these are - because my personal experience in no way supports the anxiety shown by some forum members about the Audiovox install.

Hey Hal, no fair making Badcat think he can install this!! I want him to give me his so I can install it on my bike!

Hey Kaitsdad,

I just finished installing this CC on my 06 (put the servo just behind the tranny/directly in front of the shock. put the vac can under the fuel tank). Due to freezing temps and snow I have yet to try it. I'm anticipating a problem with the unit stemming from the purple wire that senses "brakes on" and cancels the cruise.

Before soldering the purple wire to the yellow rear brake wire I tested it for ground. No Ground - instead it had 7-8 Positive Volts normally which subsequently bumped up to 12 volts when the brakes were applied (all with the ignition on of course).

Did you have to install a couple of resistors and a diode to get around this brake wire issue?? If so, this might explain may of the so called "failures"?

This came up in another thread, and I PM'd Smitty about it. He says he doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't see where the 8 volts could be coming from.

I found another thread with the same thing, 8 volts instead of ground, and that person had an LED brake light kit, which when removed set the wire back to zero volts.

If you have 8 volts and can't do anything about it, you might have to rig up a double-throw relay that is triggered by the brake light switch that grounds the purple wire in its normal condition, and applied 12 volts in its "clicked" condition.

Cool.

If you ever come anywhere near Florence South Carolina or we cross paths somewhere you can work your magic on mine. Some just don't work. Maybe your personal magic will do it, please. However if not graced with your magic I see an McCruise sometime in my future.
