Price about the same, resale about the same but can you put up with a few scratches for all the other mods? Even if you don't like the seat, sell it and make up the difference. The tail box is worth it's weight in gold if you travel and those are WAY more than $300. The tall screen is about another $100, so you'd buy that for the '16 which adds to the price. The real question is: Do you want value or do you want pretty? (Love my '17 ES and change the suspension to super soft quite often if on the super slab highway and back to 'sporty' in the hills of the Adirondacks and the Blue Ridge.

Hello from BC, Canada!

I've been riding for 45 of my 60 years, the first 25 or so on sport bikes. My wife and I did a bunch of touring on a 2005 R12GS before I decided to boil my garage down to one bike, a KTM 890 Adventure R. Previously I had a road bike and a dirt bike or two for irresponsible fun. A riding buddy is trying to convince me to get another more long legged bike so we can do some multi day tours together, and an FJR has always been on my bucket list, so I am in information collection mode. Forgive my inane questions please!
Stop waiting and got get a used one. You won't regret it, and if you do, you didn't buy new. Try to get a 6 speed would be my only recommendation. So 10 years old or newer. $10K gets you in the door on a pretty nice ride! THEN >>> Go take a track day on it. It really helps!
