Help me decide

Taking a trip south the first part of October. :clapping: I will be at my bro's in Olathe, KS on the 10/1-3 weekend, and then am heading down to Arkansas. Trying to decide whether, or not, to take a side trip over to Memphis to see Beale st, and some of the music history of the area, or to just stay in the twisty part of AR. Anyone explored the Memphis area, and is it worth it to slab it over there?

Route 160 across southern Missouri is an amazing road,

as if you really needed an excuse to go to Memphis.

My oldest and intelligent nephew recently moved to Memphis to finish college with his new bride. He doesn't ride motorcycles but loves BBQ and raves about the food.

I find the area immediately around Memphis boring as hell for riding. But it's a different decision for you coming from the west than for us coming from the east. So I have no idea why I'm even clogging up this thread.

Hey, there's great BBQ right there in Mountain View, AR...just east of town. No sense in leaving the good roads, when you have good BBQ right there!

...Or stop at the CliffHouse, just south of Jasper on 7, if you want good food as well...although I haven't tried their BBQ.

I have eaten BBQ in Memphis and lobster in Maine. Tough decision indeed. I think you need to do both, several times.

I have heard that Memphis has some good eats, but the twisty bits of AR look to have some tasty "dive" type places, and It probably won't cost me as much. :dribble:

Another issue with Memphis is that I see them featured on the TV shows Cops, and The First 48 quite regularly. :gun: :shiftyph34r:

I'll throw in a little local input. Hi-way 16 is nice, one end is near Eureka Springs in Elk country, the other in the Greers Ferry lake area. Do a little research on Push Mountain Road (hiway 341) for riding too. https://www.motorcycleroads.com/routes/Sout...t/AR/AR_2.shtml

For food in the Mountain View area, forget BBQ. Try JoJo's at Jacks Resort for catfish and Cody's restaurant in Fifty Six, AR for good Southern cooking.

My personal opinion, stay out of Memphis unless you have aspirations of being on tv ("COPS"). :axesmiley:

I'm a former Memphis resident. Fun town, great history, good eats. I liked it. Good place to visit.

My choice, though, would be to ride the twisties. Those are some of the best roads in the country. And there's plenty to see and do in AR. And as a motorcycle destination, Memphis kind of blows. Flat as a pancake and a driving population that, literally, has trouble reading road signs.

I didn't own a bike for the four years I lived in Memphis. If I did, my first choice would have been to point west and take it out of town.

stay in Arkansas and southern Missouri - you won't find anything over by Memphis better or even as good as there.

I live in Tennessee, but I'm 295 miles east of the Memphis and the Big Muddy. We don't get over there too often, but that's not for lack of good things to do there.

Every foreign guest that comes to visit us here is anxious to get over to Memphis to see the sights during their trip. They can't go back to Sweden, Norway, Austria, Germany, or whatever, without checking out Graceland, Beale Street, and the general food and music associated with Memphis. Graceland, Walt Disney World, Central Park, Las Vegas, ... these are all on the list for many first time visitors to the US.

Memphis is not a great place to ride a bike, but most big cities aren't. Memphis is a fun place to visit, and an iconic destination for anyone who is interested in understanding American culture. There are twisties on many roads, but there's only one Memphis, Tennessee.

Memphis is great, the ride over is greater. Take 160 in Mo over and 412 in Ar back, awesome rides on a bike. Used to drive truck in those areas, found most direct route to slab after a couple of trips.

If anyone else is riding in the AR, and southern MO area those days let me know, and maybe we could meet up.

Looks like you live in a great riding location. I have plans to be by your area on Tues. I was planning on bobbing/weaving my way around, mostly on 7, from Eureka to Hot Springs to Conway. I have a room reserved in Conway. I will PM you Monday, if things are on schedule for me.
