After seeing this sweet deal on a '14 for $10.5K in OKC a week or so ago, but then realizing it couldn't be registered here in Cali, my long-simmering dream of updating my old '05 has come up to a full boil.

I'd like to find a deal as sweet as that one (wouldn't everybody), but I don't have to jump till I get pretty close. If it's out of state, it has to have at least 7,500 miles to be Cali-legal, but overall it should be late model ('13 or later, I'm thinking), low miles (like 10K-ish) nice and clean, and if it had some quality farkles, so much the better.

I'd fly and ride, but hopefully not ALL the way across. Still, for the right deal . . .

Probably not the best time of the year to get the best deal, but OTOH, now is when lots of bikes come on the market. Don't want to deal with a middle man either. Private party much preferred.

So any ideas, folks?

Just my opinion and it is worth exactly what you paid for it...

As much as I love Dad's '07 I do not see the point in going from a good, used Gen1 to a good, used Gen 2. I would STRONGLY recommend a Gen 3. There are just too many upgrades from the Gen 1 to the Gen 3 to ignore. Honestly, the Instrument Cluster, the Cruise Control and the Suspension are worth the extra money between a Gen 2 and a Gen 3. Even the "A" suspension is better, you don't have to go with the ES. The rest is just gravy.

I am just finishing adding all my accessories to my recently purchased "new" '14. I agree with Redfish, there is a difference between the II and IIIs.

Dunno if you can make this one work SacMike. Maybe contact South Sound BMW and take it on a quick 4 day 2700 mile "test ride" before purchase?

Gotta be a way to purchase it with the required miles.

Happy Hunting!

Clearwaters and what looks like a 590 included? Huh.
Yup, saw it on CL yesterday. Pick it up for a grand or so less and it'll be a good buy.

Another tempting one. Drat! Anybody know if somebody comes and looks at the odo when you complete the transfer paperwork in Colo? I'm thinking that wouldn't happen till I got it back here to Cali and went to the DMV, but I could get the miles up to par myself by the time I got here. Tell 'em I brought it here on a truck.

Still pondering. If only it had a few of those expensive goodies I'd want to add right away. Doesn't take long to start adding up. But keep 'em coming, please.

I would offer to sell you my 2015 ES but you would not want it. The price I would ask would be more than a new 2016 ES is worth. If you are willing to spend $30K and do a fly-n-ride mine has more than enough miles to satisfy your DMV.

Yes, I love my '15 at least that much.

I wish you lots of luck and hope you find the one you want.

I think the writing's on the wall, MIke, GenIII gently used..... put the first miles on my '14 root beer today and...... oh yeah. You want GenIII (not a lipstick pink one though). Hell I'd even get a gently scratched up '13 and do it up in Burnt Sienna.

So...we're helping you Mike. Where have you looked?
To be honest, Mark, not much farther than right here so far. But I am enjoying the fantasy for the time being. Gotta sit down with the CFO and figure out where we stand, and she's in her busiest time of the year at work right now. Think she put in at least 80 hours each of these last couple weeks. I'll head over to the credit union this week and look into rates and so forth so that when it's time, it'll be a straightforward cash deal. Like I said, though, my first choice is not a dealership or a middleman like Cycle Trader. Rather keep it more personal. Easier to negotiate that way too.

OK, shifting gears now. I just got serious. I've made some calls and the perfect deal is still eluding me, but I'm narrowing it down. I don't want to try and beat the system on Cali's 7,500 mile requirement. Don't know if you even can. I guess if I bought a registered bike out of state, I'd get some kind of a temporary registration certificate in that state good for a short period so I could move it here legally, but they'd document the mileage when it was issued. Best not to take a risk, so I have to pass on the ones in NH and CO.

So it's Gen III, low miles, over 7,500 if out of Cali, less would be fine in state, of course. Prefer private party, but dealer could work too. I called A & S BMW nearby (thanks Geoff) about that $12K '14. Kind of tempted, but there really IS a sweeter deal somewhere, just waiting. That one's pretty much straight stock. Hope you guys will keep me in mind if you see something pop up. I really don't mind lipstick pink, either.

It occurs to me that if you REALLY get serious there should be some brand new leftover '15s at some dealers in California. They have just about got to take a loss on those things with the '16s already arriving. Normally they would have to go low but with the upgrades to the '16 you have some serious bargaining power.

The '15 is nice but it does not have the LED cornering lights or the slipper clutch. Most important for price dealing is the 6 speed vs. 5 speed.

Remember it is only money. It is no good until you spend it. Good luck.
