If I may be so bold to point out the obvious - you need to perform the tests that Ionbeam has suggested. Trust me, this man knows his ****. If you had done so earlier, you would have had this problem solved - and without spending the big money for a new windshield drive unit.. Not to mention all the frustration and time spent.

Take 10 minutes and get some numbers for Ionbeam!

I say this sincerely - not as an insult.

;)

Well. all what he said is not the issue. I found the route cause,
What was the big deal with measuring the battery voltage and switched ignition voltage when unloaded and loaded? We needed to know some basics to start with. You had taken a lot of things apart and have messed with a whole bunch of systems, we needed to know that the fundamentals were sound before moving on with the troubleshooting process.

So care to share with us what the problem was?

I have a brand new "Wind Shield drive Unit" It cost R 6500 here in South Africa. It;s suited for 2002. I found the route cause in my bike. It was a short, that causes me to think it was the "Wind Shield Drive Unit" Due to testing along with an auto Electrician etc. I bought the new one, & yamaha don't want to refund me. so now i am stuck etc.

I still use to old wind shield drive unit. Since that one is still working.

Are here any FJR owner 2002 that wants to buy this unit?

Yeah

Ouch. Especially since the first reply seeems to have nailed your issue. A little experimenting with the windshield unit would have shown whether it was functional or not before dropping the big money on a new one.

Not to rub it in but Ionbeam's structured approach would have zero'd in on your issue in just a few posts..for free.

Think so, but that is life i think

Ion- Me thinks that someone is a facetious person and just caught a big fish. No one can be that obtuse, can they? I, for one, appreciate all of your troubleshooting insight and hope that you're around if I have trouble!

+1

Leading the horse to water that is free, and then spending 932.00 for ice is a little crazy. If you have other issues I am sure the recommendations will be replace parts until your wallet runs empty, or your brain finally sparks to trouble shoot from directions from those who know more than you do.

I am happy you are fixed but find it insane you refused to do the work to get to the problem in a orderly and less expensive solution. Good luck getting rid of that boat anchor.
