I have a 06AE w/ heated grips. I have a compressor and a plug to plug it into.

I have a G2 Ergo handgrip thingy coming.

I need to git the grip off and not ruin my heated thingy to install my Uber cool new little farkle

I have seen a post that sez compressed air makes it come off easier.

Can anyone help tell me how to get it off using the air and the uber cool technique?

Where do I put the air, the top, the end, up my girlfriends hiney??

Thanks in advance!! Y'All are so smart

i added the G2 Ergo cam to an 06 AE. It's easier to have someone help you.

I'll explain assuming you have an assistant... FWIW.

1) remove the bar-end (or Throttlemeister in my case)

2) remove the 2 bolts that hold the throttle housing (after moving the rubber thingy from the bottom)

3) take special note of how the heater cable aligns to the factory white throttle tube.

4) put the nozzle of the air between the rubber and the throttle tube (have one person hold that.) and start the air goin.

5) note that the entire grip appears to swell just a little.

6) while the other person is holding the air nozzle there....

7) squirt some soapy water in there, while continuing to blow air (keeps the grip 'swollen')

8) -- hold the white tube (where the cables were attached) with one hand

9) -- put a wash cloth on the grip, and 1/4 turn left - right - left continuing to pull and twist until it's off.

------ see -- one hand hold the air nozzle, one hand holds the throttle tube, one hand twists and removes the grip.

When you put the G2 on, the grip electrical cable will have to be in the same position as the stock (step 3 above)

there may be better ways -- but that's how I did it, and it worked fine.

Do not do this...or even think about it!

Remove the bar end, then place the "pointy" end of your blow-gun attachment so that it blows air between the grip and the throttle tube. (or handlebar end of the left bar). A cushion of air will the cause the grip to "balloon" up enough to slide it off the tube. You may have to direct the air around and some have reported carefully lifting the edge of the grip with a small screwdriver to allow the air to begin separating the grip from the tube.

You might have to move the nozzle around to create enough flow to have the grip "free" enough to slide off.

I changed Ric-in-Sac's non-heated grip in less than a minute (after removing the bart end weight).

THanks you guys, I have a compressor and a pointy thing that the air can come out of. I got ship confirmation about G2 and am pretty excited.

Farkle's one at a time!!

You guys are great. My GF said she thinks you may be right about her hiney not needing air. :to_become_senile:

Hey Cdogman, I am getting ready to do this same thing (will prob change grips to something larger). I do not have heated grips. Let me know how this works re: fixing the throttle touchy-ness. I am a great big ham-fisted (me like meat!) guy who spends way too much time worrying about the throttle when shifting.

Thanks guys for the info, great as usual here! :clapping:

Tom

I believe the heated grips have a ridged core so the air gun may not work. I was able to just twist & pull to get the left heated grip off. The left grip has little ribs molded into the inside of the grip that make it easier to get off. I had to use an adhesive solvent to get the right grip off. LMK if the air gun doesn't work.

It'll be a day or two till I give it a go. The new ones have yet to arrive, I only have a tracking number (that I have not been tracking) telling me they are on the way.

I need to git this bike set up for two up and comms/XM/GPS and , and , and , and , and so on.....................

I like my GL1800 but it is so SLOW after riding this toy, I got all the toys for it but no mounting or interfacing stuff like on the GL, No reason to not have it mountable since I own the stuff anyway :yahoo:

I installed a GPS. Pretty easy. Garmin 2820. Haven't used it enough but I would recommend it so far. It was my second farkle after a set of Skyway's sliders. I'll watch the thread for your impression of the throttle workings!

Still waiting for G2, JAX did you interface w/ your helmet? If so what kind of coms did you put on your bike. I am thinking Autocom for mine to match my Wing (yes I put Autocom on my wing)

No to the comms yet Cdog. Have seen good things written here about AutoCom. The mount from Garmin does have a audio plug for the comms. Not sure how it connects though. I like the comms idea for conversing w/ pillion, although having her in my ear :yahoo: constantly does seem to have some disadvantages. I liked using the GPS to see what roads were ahead, like a scrolling map. Distances are shown to turns so no need to be told to "turn right in 50 feet". Don't want to spoil the ride too much, have enough voices in my head for now.

That said, comms will prob be my next major purchase too. I will be trolling the boards looking for answers.

I had the standard comms on my Goldwing, Used JM gear in helmet. I had to cut helmet to mount speakers and the cord (upper) was unreliable (tension from coil lower pulling and degrading upper connection to helmet) I bought a new X11 helmet and refused to cut it in any way. I did a TON of research and found Autocom has velcro attached speakers that are VERY thin. I use those now, HOWEVER, I am going to switch to in the ear speakers to attenuate the road and be able to listen at lower volume.

I found the Autocom System to have far superior noise rejection on my wing (wind noise in the mic). I am going to put it on the FJR but have to save my bucks for a bit first. On my Wing, I can have FM, XM, Comms, GPS and one other (not currently in use) running at the same time. GPS and Comms breaking in with Auto Mute of Tunes upon activation of the other units. It really is a slick setup. Gotta save my bucks though to get the Autocom for the FJR.............

Hey Cdog did you install the G2 yet? Did it solve the throttle issues? Waiting for your input before purchasing! Thanks buddy.
