Anyone have any ideas on how to get the seat off? The cable must be stuck or something and I don't want to twist the key off. I've had it be slightly stiff before and hitting the seat to loosen it up helped, but now I can't get it to budge. Any ideas?

You are talking about the passenger seat right? The front seat comes off with a lever under the left side. If it's the rear, just push down hard as described above. I only say this because my brother's Beemer uses two different key cylinders and he did not know how to remove my driver's seat. You also know you can't remove the driver's seat unless the passenger seat is off first...Right?

HRZ - It's a Gen I vs Gen II thing here. Grady's got a Gen I and it's different from your Gen II.

Push down on the seat, BUT, if that's not working the next step is going to be unpleasant. Start unbolting parts until you can manipulate the cable.

When you get it off, find out if you jammed it up with something under the seat, (don't do that again), or if the mechanism was simply dirty. Ya did lube up the lock already, right?

I'll be dipped! On a Gen II the pillion seat comes off first???

FINALLY.....a reason to upgrade to a Gen II! :yahoo:

This was a Gen I. I was able to get it by spraying the lock tumbler with some lube and putting a knee into the seat and pushing with all I had. Looks like there is a bit of wear in the latch that is making it a little harder also.

Now to try and figure out the electrical gremlins. Last night on the way home it was cutting the engine, dash would go out, then the gauges would sweep through the start up cycle, the engine light and oil light would come on and then the engine would catch again. It did this for almost 10 miles on my way home every 10-15 seconds. Then on the gravel road as long as I kept the rpms below 3000 it would run fine, but as soon as it went over that, it started the same thing again. Any guesses? I'm planning on taking a look at the electrical connector that others have mentioned first.

Yes, check that main electrical connector, but check the simple **** first. Battery connectors, main ground to the frame below the battery.

You pick up another project? Or do something with yours, like submerge it?

Nope, this is still my bike. I really think it's mad at me for not riding it for a month and then riding in a torrential downpour for my first ride :) I realized I really need to Scotchguard my Aerostich again. I'm sure the moisture out there yesterday had something to do with it. It was raining hard and in the low 90's so things were a bit wet. It was fine on the way to work in the morning, but started acting up on the way home. It was under a shelter so it wasn't getting rained on all day, but it was coming down hard as soon as I left.

I've had the rough duty of putting on a few miles for a buddy of mine. I've put on just over 2600 miles on his '08 1098S in the last few weeks. He got a deal with the first valve adjustment covered if it was in the first year and said he was behind on the miles. Tough eh?

Just for kicks, while it's idling, give the ignition switch wires a bit of a tug.

Do it at home just in case the solder joint has failed inside the switch.
Good luck !

Hey Howie... :****: :****: I totally forgot that GenI seats come off different. I guess I just assumed it was a GenII since we are the only ones that ever have any problems. Ha! Guess again *******.

Dunhamg; glad you got it worked out. Good luck on the electrical stuff.

+1 on checking the battery cables first. Had repeat offenders on my bike until I finally put teflon tape on the threads to make them thicker (Yeah, I know, wrong application, but it's been working for 2 or 3 years now)

Yep, it was the easy fix. The battery connections were a little loose and now it's running great again.
