Spoke to Matt a little while ago. He is at a dealership in Littleton, CO and looks like he should soon be on the road again. Its a large dealership and should have what he needs in the line of dual-sport tires. :yahoo: No, they sell FJR's so he should be fine.

A dentist on a motorcycle shouldn't have any problem getting help.

Dude, You are 613 Miles one way from me. Just a TAD to far for me to fetch you with my trailer.

I would if I could and you were a bit closer. I would burn 250 in fuel to get you w/my trailer.

glad to hear he may be going again soon.

I ride a bicycle and am constantly amazed at the amount of crap that is on the road/road side that would puncture a tire in a minute.

It's a wonder we don't flat every day.

Matt,

I feel for ya buddy, been there, done that, I was fortunate enough to have a bunch of great people with me to help me out when it happened to me. I hope you're in good shape now with your Littleton dealer visit. Go back out and have some more fun before you get home.

Jay

Ah, happy ending! I woke up, started another internet search. BADABING! I found a super store multi dealer that advertises Dunlops at half price and installed while you wait! And they are open on Mondays!!!

So I go out at the crack of dawn. Tire has pressure, less 1.5 pounds or so for the 20 degree temp drop. Figger I"ll just run up to Litttleton and sit on their doorstep. So I get there over an hour before the service shop is supposed to take drop offs. The owner comes in an hour early and has a quick pleasant chat. He assures me no problem they'll get me hooked right up. And they did! I had the tire on and was out the door in an hour. And it only cost me 2 bills for everything... I was expecting to get gouged for upwards of 3. Oh no. Even discounted the FJR service to "sport bike" instead of "touring" prices!! :clapping:

Grad Prix Motosports in Littleton, CO. That's a SW burb of Denver. They WILL hook you right up and do tires while you wait any time they are ope. The downside is that they only sell Dunlops. But they do sell them for 1/2 of list all day long. I got some kind of sport touring tire... never heard of that model. It was supposed to be their top sport touring tire. They recommended it for the FJR, I bought it. End of story and back out on the road.

So I jumped out to 470, then over to I-70 and up the "back way" to Estes Park. Lemme tell you that 116 sucks. Pretty, but between the casinos and Estes Park the road is trash. Washboards and lousy patches. But Oh, RMNP was FINE! Most of the roads through the park seemed brand new. Not that it did me any good. You just can't get much over 35. But the vistas are awesome!

I did a loop out the southwest side and cut back to I-70. Got to Denver just at drive time traffic. Fun. And it was 102 downtown. Ugh.

The dunlop felt great. Looks to be wearing pretty well. We'll see how it holds up on the slab tomorrow. I was tired, so I stopped in Limon. The winds were gusting hard at about 30. I'm hoping to blow out in the AM when things are still calm.

Hasta Manana!

Way cool.. sometimes it's perceived as stress, sometimes an adventure.. it's all up to YOU!

You are on the road, having fun, and us slaves just get up to work another day..

Have lot's O fun, and enjoy your ride!

Hey Matt, Call me in the morning! I am only about 50 miles east of you in Stratton CO.

PM sent also. :)

Back at home. Assessing the tire wear of sedate touring through RMNP and backroads of Colorado, then slogging back from Denver to Indiana on Ol' I-70. The Dunlop D220ST (rear) doesn't hardly show any wear. It has a nice profile and tread out to the edge of the chicken strip. Note that I'm not a peg dragger and really took it pretty easy, yet I'm almost out to the edge of the grip on the tire. IE almost no chicken strip. Now maybe I'm turning in harder than I realize, but I'm also wondering if there's just less tire than some of the other sport touring models.

Another thing of note is that this tire, being brand new, I can see chord (fabric weave pattern anyway) in the depths of the tread in several places. Not really very confidence inducing. But with about 1500 miles on the tire, it seems perfectly fine. I forgot about the tire after about 50 miles and just rode. That was comforting.

I still have a Storm on the front. It has about 8K on it, and it still seems fine. I'll strip it off for the trip back out west to WFO, but I could probably ride another couple K on it pretty easily. Maybe the rear storm isn't a good tire for long wear purposes (it sure was great in the short run, though!), but the front tire has been upwards of a perfect tire, and worthy of anyone's consideration for a sport touring tire.

Of course YMMV!

It's good to be home so I can make a few bucks and load up to go out and do it all again! (except for the flat tire part, I hope... ;) )

FJRocket,

Just now saw your thread. Looks like I was in Montrose and Ridgeway State Park area while your were in Durango. Sorry I didn’t check the forum while I was in the area.

Glad ya got things taken care of and that ya got home safe.

Good to hear things are okay. I was thinking there should have been several options in the Co Springs area. It's pretty populated there and on N into Denver.

Needed tires on a trip are often not cheap and why I'll swap out a tire with a couple thou left on them before heading out. That way you can pick and choose your price and down time.

Was that you I saw out near Placerville or Naturita? I saw a Blue FJR when I was gassing up and checked my route. Looked to be headed back south to the Telluride area. I went down that way, then out through Doris and over to Durango. I actually tried to catch up, but I guess I just didn't have enough...tread.

That's a good idea. I ordered a set of Storms yesterday (since my dealer will meet SWMoto's price) to keep as spares for my bike or somebody passing thru in an emergency. Now I've decided I might put the new ones on right before I head to the EOM in September, and save the current Storms (which will probably have 3,000 miles or so left) for spares.

You know, I have several "take offs" that probably still have some miles on them. I was just getting ready to run all the duds down to a shop for disposal. Maybe I should throw the turds away and save a couple "just in case", too. Smitty sure helped out Griff by lending him a take off tire to get home when we went to Hooterville. Maybe keeping new and used spares around IS a good idea!
