Replaced the battery today with a new one.. It made no difference

It sure sounds like a tooth off on the timing. I know you said you looked but from what I read looking will not do it with the OEM markings. Most I read mark them in a easier place to be able to see them. I know it makes no sense but it fits everything I have read over the years here on out of time cam chains.

That is something I might explore as well..

I have an appt with my local Yamaha dealer this week.. Hopefully they have a competent mechanic that can figure it out.

Here is a summary of what I've tried so far.. Please chime in with any other ideas! So Bike is definetly down on power and sluggish when excelerating. It feels like its missing to me. This came on suddenly when riding back from a day trip last week.

1. drained fuel and put fresh fuel in, to include a stabilizer

2. Replaced spark plugs (they all looked good, except one was a bit darker than the other 3)

3. Replaced air filter

4. Replaced battery

5. Checked diagnostic codes (none present).. TPS appeared to be fine when tested via the diag screen.

The only thing left is compression test and leak down test. I still bet it jumped a tooth somehow.

Well ended up taking it to the dealer.. They said I've got a bad injector..

So just going to replace it and ride on?

Yes sir! Of course they didn't have any in stock so waiting for them to show up.. I do find it odd to replace injectors at 18k though. Mechanic said he's seen alot of FJR's for various reasons but never replaced injectors..

OK...its friday here, but i'd say 18K is about what most of us 05 FJR riders put on our bikes...in 05. If this old dude sat, the material in the injector will change a bit as will all the rubber seals...i'd dip it in wd40...the whole bike...i do mine with an engine stand and tub o' ky, but i'm poor...hope it fixes up real nice as these are the best color available that year !

A bad injector or a fouled injector? You might want to ask the mechanic to clarify. If it's just fouled, it can be cleaned, along with the other three. Cost me $60.00 to have 'em done last year when I had a fouled one.

BTW, you can check to see if the solenoid in the injector is working by connecting a 12v power source, once you've pulled it. If you hear clicking when applying power, it means the solenoid is functioning. If so, my money is on fouling rather than failure.

Just wanted to update this thread.

Dealer did replace injectors and bike is running great again like it should.

Also, an interesting point about this.. My nieghbor is an insurance adjust and suggested that if I did get a batch of bad fuel, it may be covered under my comprehensive part of my policy.. I contacted them the next day, and sure enough they covered my repair bill of $1,300

Aww! I just love a story with a happy ending.

Great catch on the comprehensive policy! I'da never thunk of that. Now get out there and cycle some new injectors.

Thanks for posting this! Would not have thought of it, and it's good to keep in mind.

4 injectors at $150 each = $600....... depends on what other misc. parts cost or what else has been worked on... does seem a bit steep though.
