Ok, here's the deal. I used to be a member of the VTX Cafe back when I owned my VTX. I haven't visited that forum since I bought my FJR, and did not realize I was still on the rolls. Anyway, the following message arrived in my e-mail today and I thought I would share; since we seem to be such a helpful bunch. I have absolutely no details of the crash but figgured maybe one of us could use some "custom" paint. Here it is:

Information:

Guys, as some of you may know, or have heard, on Sunday 6/8/08 EJ

(username "Easy-E" on the VTXOA) was in a terrible crash on his bike

resulting in two fractured cervical vertebrae, several deep lacerations,

severe abrasions (road rash) and a skull fracture which required emergency

brain surgery to save his life. Thankfully he is alive, but his doctors

say that he will likely require at least a year of rehabilitation. EJ

was self-employed, so he currently has NO income to help him through

these difficult times. He is a single parent working to raise two teenage

girls after unexpectedly losing his wife two years ago.

I'd like to think if something ever happened to me, my "brothers" would

look for a way to help me, my wife, and my kids out. I suppose it's

something we motorcyclists just do. It hurts me to hear about EasyE and

what he and his family must be going through right now.

With that in mind, I spoke to Lamont about an idea I had, I'll outline

the details below. We're going to be doing a custom paint job raffle,

with 50% of the proceeds going to EJ & his family to try and help them

out during this difficult time!

Here's how it will work:

BD's Cycles is offering a custom paint job valued at up to $2500. That

sort of number ensures that any VTX owner can get the paint job of his

dreams, along with some additional options like tank seam fills, fender

smoothing, etc (please see our website at https://www.bdscycles.com for

examples of our work). "Tickets" will be $10 a piece. You can buy as

many tickets as you like. We will use our "in stock" tins (1300 R,S or

C, as well as 1800 R, S, & C) so that you can continue to ride while

your paint job is being done, unless you ride a "N" or "F" model, in which

case we'll have to schedule to paint your tins when it's convenient

for you. If we use our tins, there is a core exchange required. Raffle

ticket sales will run until the July 31st at 8pm. Once the ticket sales

closes, we will set up a "drawing" for the following day. We'll have

someone who is not a motorcyclist, who's never been on this website, and

who's probably under the age of about 5 or 6 years old (so no one can

challenge their honesty or say they are biased, LOL!) draw the winning

ticket, in front of a few witnesses.

A few years ago I did a raffle like this on another website that is

MUCH smaller than the VTXOA & Cafe (5000 members vs. 40,000 members!) and

we generated $3200 of ticket sales that was then donated for a good

cause! That was for a group of guys who don't care much about custom

paint, and for a motorcycle that you don't often see much of, especially

custom painted! I like to think we can generate some BIG numbers here for

a GOOD cause! If things go as well as I am hoping they will, when it's

all said and done I'll make another bulk contribution to Easy-E in

addition to the you guys 50% donation. Even if you don't want YOUR bike

painted, you can still buy tickets and if you win, we'll paint the set of

tins, sell them, and send you the money (or you can do the same). This

is a "win-win" for everyone involved!

We will not be issuing paper tickets, we will be keeping track of

everything electronically. I will post (to this thread) a list of people who

have purchased tickets as we go. Paypal is the preferred method of

paying for your tickets ([email protected]), but if you must, you

can also snail-mail a check or money order (see our physical address

below). BE SURE to include your "screen name/username" on ANY form of

payment, or you won't be getting credit for your ticket purchase!!!!

*****EDIT******

Guys & gals, we do take credit cards, but I much prefer Paypal as I

have to manually enter every CC transaction. If it means using a CC or no

tickets for you, then call me and we'll get your info. As mentioned,

we'll take personal checks too, I will hold onto them until the last week

of July before I cash/deposit them, if that's OK with you guys. If you

send a Paypal, I will probably wait at least a few weeks, if not until

the last week in July also, to "claim" any of the funds, as I'm just

trying to lump everything together as much as possible.

*****THANKS!******

Easy-E could use our help, and you could get a (practically) free

custom paint job out of the deal! Sounds like a plan to me!

If you have any questions please let me know!

Thanks,

Bryan
