After completing the throttle spring unwind, while replacing the front tank bolts, I lost a hex bit under the tank. I raised the tank, removed the heat sheild (again) and looked EVERYWHERE.

Do I need to worry about that little sucker or will it simply fall out in time?

Thanks

Sorry, not enough info. Where did the bolt fall? what area exactly? Any pix would help. Was the bike on the side stand or center stand (bolt may fall differently)? was the last sound of the bolt falling a metallic sound? Did it hit the ground at all? It could be at the bottom of your fairing, I have found bolts, washers, etc, there.
My only real big concern would be if it's anywhere near or around the TB area. I would not want something to wedge in there and hold the throttle open. That would be very bad.

Good luck finding it. ;)

I had the heat sheild reinstalled already so I don't think it could have made it into the TB area. It didn't fall far because it didn't clink around much. Thing is I couldn't find it on the heat sheild or around the area. Not sure where it is but I'm hoping it will simply drop out with movement.

Thanks

Did it fall through in front of the engine, or behind? If behind it's probably on top of the transmission case, and you might find it if you ever have to take the throttle bodies off. If in front of the engine there isn't much to stop it before the ground, unless it went through one of those holes in the frame and went inside.

Either way, not much chance it's going to hurt anything, or that you'll ever see it again.

Don't worry about it...

When the motor ingests it, it will shortly be on its way out one of the mufflers.

Of course, AFTER tattooing your initials in the top of the piston of the cylinder that ate the sucker.

But that's okay.

Oh my GOD!!! If you leave it there and ride the Whole World Will Blow UP!!!!

Don't listen to Skooter. He is one of those "sky is falling" pansies. That's why he's hoarding FJRs. He thinks when the world ends he's gonna be like Mad Max. With Skooter it'll be more like Maxi-Pad.

Now Skooter- if my bike explodes I doubt it will effect more than just my city. Everybody knows that

In front. Just under where the tank bolts are located. Not too worried, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone had this happen and what the outcome was.

Was it a magnetic one?

If so, it might change how you look for it.
I wish it was. I probabaly wuldn't have lost it

I used to walk a lot, between 5 and 10 miles a day. I can't tell you how many times I picked up a hand tool along the road.

found a complete set of "shorty" snap on metric end wrenches still in the tool roll that way.

Back to the OP your bit may have gotten caught by a wire loom or the hard brake lines. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

One thing you don't want is for it to fall into the spark plug hole whenever next the spark plugs are changed. On another bike I lost a small bolt that secures the front of the tank (just like the FJR but it has 2). 2000 k's later, when servicing the bike, out it popped from one of the spark plug wells. It had come out while riding, and worked it's way down there. Fortunately i blow all the collected gunk out of the spark plug wells before removing the plugs (as everyone should), but it took a bit of 'fishing' to get the air to lift it out. I would NOT have liked that to pass through the motor.
